2011-2012 Snowmobile Season

we are going back out tonight from springville probably around 6. if you want to meet up tonight

Mike

Edit: have i met you before? i wanna say i have years ago

I rode from Arcade to Ashford last night. Stopped at a small bar right in Ashford and headed back to Colden through Springville. Had a rough night though…I hit a ditch up on the top of Bixby Hill and my ski folded in half. Everytime I came up on a bump/ditch/creek, the ski just folded up and the suspension took all of it. Not a fun ride. I hit a water hole just outside Springville and it stopped me in my tracks. I slammed the handlebars and just about threw up my hot chicken wings.

Going to get it fixed so I can ride tomorrow night. All in all, Ashford had the best groomed trails of anywhere.

^ Sounds like someone needs to slow down a bit, especially considering this is your first year riding.

Most likely the sled (SD) and not the rider. Good thing the motor didn’t fall out.

Going out Saturday. If holland doesn’t have enough snow then we will either drop at earls or find somewhere else.

I think Saturday night is going to be our next run. Fingers crossed this storm dumps enough to ride out of Clarence but I doubt it. Leaving out of Chestnut Ridge hasn’t been bad.

Meh, it wasn’t marked and I was trying to catch up to my group. The kid leading the way didn’t exactly let anybody know it was there. It was a pretty big ditch too. I was really surprised it wasn’t marked.

^^sounds like rider inexperience. ive hit some pretty bad ditches by suprise before, its called pin the throttle and get the front end in the air as fast as you can so it doesnt hurt as bad. usually end up completely in the air and riding away from it.

i remember when i was 14 riding my '79 jag i had to be escorted home by some dec officers when they were on thundercat 1000’s…because i didnt have my safety course…had no idea i needed one and i was out by myself riding around pendleton. had to cross a ditch on the way home, i got through fine, the dec officer behind me got thrown off his sled because he hit the ditch wrong… and im the one that needs a course on safe snowmobiling? lmao.

if this storm gives us some decent snow i will be heading out around town for a little bit…im more looking forward to racing sunday.

See I know that I need to gun it, but the problem I have been having is I have no picks. My track spins so bad when I really try to throttle it.

My plan is a major overhaul on this offseason. Picks, new carbides, whole front end suspension rebuild and a few other things. I really want to do it sooner than later, but I am going to enjoy the snow while we have it.

fixed

studs will help alot, but when you do it, make sure you get some good stud penetration past the lug. you have an 800 right? those still 121" tracks? i would do minimum 144 studs and a good 3/8" penetration past the lug.

on a 121" track 800 i actually prefer 192 with atleast 9/16" penetration past the lug.

if you only go an 1/8" like people always claim, the studs wont work like they should youll still be spinning and the snow will pack up easier in the track than if there were no studs. also having fewer studs will be more prone to tear throughs and bent/snapped studs.

My MXZ has an ice ripper track (the ones with the little studs that screw into the track lugs). It’s taken some getting used to coming from the ZR with a picked track but I’m finding I like the “looseness” of it and that I can drift it coming out of turns with throttle. I know I’m giving up some holeshot and probably a little top end to spinning but I don’t give a crap about drag racing. It’s climbed some really icy hills in Boston without issue.

Doing a girls ride today, but no plans for Fri or Sat yet. I’m not sure if we’ve met.

Most people know me because of my white R6

Free riding lessons to Bobby.

Only if there’s beer included after.

Under 100 studs and you’ll be fine (i suggest woody’s)… Ps i should have my sled going late this weekend (hopefully), if you want to meet up sometime, jump some roads or search for some deep snow, hit me up. Or maybe ride out to Colden lakes or something, if i strap a gas tank to the back of my sled ha.

That pic is so scary… seriously

Free beer…tomorrow.

For sure man. I will be out all weekend, that is if this snow holds true to what they are saying.

My sled is up around the corner from colden lakes right now, it would be easy for us to meet up.

You have any stickers I might be able scoop from ya?

i completely disagree with running under 100. get some miles on that setup and say bye bye. even if its for just some extra traction/increased safety measure, you should atleast think about the longevity. running so few studs will put more stress on each stud and the track, if they dont bend or snap and fly out, they will tear out of the track. ive put well over 4000 miles on tract/stud setups with not a single bent, snapped, or torn out stud and that was with 5/8" penetration past the lug. if he goes with that few of stud i guarentee he will start having problems in 1500 miles or less.

i do atleast agree with running woody’s. im running some woody’s with studboy powerplates right now in my cfr.

Used to run Woody’s double studs / plates on my Polaris. Whatdya think of em?

I’m running a 96 double backers and 48 singles all between the hyfax on my 600. Probably have about 3000 miles on it so far, haven’t bent or broken a single one.
