2011-2012 Snowmobile Season

Was looking for someone with a trailer to meet me at my storage unit (meyer rd, amherst), grab my sled, and take it to hebelers. Think I have a ride for where it’s going after it gets running.

Might be able to help in the next few days. My trailer has to come back to Hamburg tomorrow but need to figure a few things out before I can answer. I’ll do what I can to help.

Hey, PM me your phone number. I might be able to work something out tomorrow afternoon. Don’t know what your schedule is. Thanks.

gettin my hood back from paint and airbrushing soon

thats about all i got. i need to take my new ypipe and single to swaintech too. im slacking. lol

Dropping off my muffler to the coater this morning. Going to have that ceramic too. Think I narrowed down the color scheme for the suspension. The pricing from that shock rebuilder I posted above seems reasonable.

I’m debating on whether I am going to pick my track or not. I always rode with studs until last year when I put my new track on and didn’t feel like studing it.
Any recommendations on studs, I don’t care much for being the first one of the line since I dont drag my sled, but I do like to bang through the woods.

With the ice we tend to get around here studs are super helpful. My sled is far from a drag racer, but still stud it for the icy trails, overall handling and traction during braking.

when alot of people stud their tracks, they only go 1/16"-1/18" past the lug, and usually dont have enough studs. when they do this, youll actually cause more problems. alot of times it wont help traction in the snow and itll actually hurt your braking because there is less room between the lugs and the snow packs in…and being that the stud doesnt penetrate much it will just slide instead of grab.

i like to have atleast around 3/8" penetration of the stud. the track ive been running the last few years has 240 studs and they penetrate 5/8" past the lug.

the other thing to keep in mind is how many studs. alot of people do minimal, but this will cause more pressure on each individual stud and they are more prone to pulling and bending. my track has almost 5k on it, not a single pull through or bent stud. there is one missing but that one snapped, the hole is perfect. i can just put a new one in if i wanted to.

on smalled sleds i can understand just 96 studs, but even on a more stout 600 i would say 144. anything bigger, minimum 192.

dont forget to have as many scratchlines as possible. shift that stud template all over. the more the better, but keep it in some kind of pattern

edit…make sure you measure and are confident you clear everything…ive seen guys rip right through gas tanks with studs because they didnt check lol

I put a new track on mine 2 years ago. Old one had studs, didn’t stud the new one. I should have studded the new one. When I do this one it will only be down the middle.

My buddy and I have pretty much identical ZR600’s except my track is studded and his isn’t. I haven’t seen a big difference in loose stuff but I get a huge advantage on hardpack and ice. No doubt I’ll stud mine when it comes time for a replacement.

Between the hyfax are great because you don’t run into as many pull outs as the sides tend to do. I’m running 144 (96 on double backers and 48 singles) all down the middle and haven’t pulled or broken one in 5 years. Running a 1.25" track with 1.5" studs. Also the hyfax is where the majority of the weight gets put down to the ground, so the closer your studs are the more weight they’ll have to aid in biting into the trail.

^^^ive never had an issue with running studs on the outside, and i have been for a long time. you can get alot more traction running them on the outside too.

just dont do it on a fire kitty.

That’s fire panther to you sir.

Which insurance companies do you guys use?

Progressive here.

Progressive as well.

Erie insurance. Rider on my auto policy. Think I’m @ $150.00 / season, full coverage.

american modern, $68

Full coverage, standalone policy or rider?

+1… that’s a great rate but I’m guessing liability only.

Here’s my policy summary, I think I got a pretty good deal for decent coverage:

BODILY INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY $31.00
BI $100,000 EACH PERSON - $300,000 EACH ACCIDENT
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $50,000 EACH ACCIDENT $16.00
MANDATORY UNINSURED MOTORIST $3.00
$25,000 EACH PERSON - $50,000 EACH ACCIDENT
COMPREHENSIVE $250 DEDUCTIBLE $15.00
COLLISION $250 DEDUCTIBLE $47.00
ACCESSORY COVERAGE $3,000 INCL
Premium by Vehicle $112.00
Total Policy Premium $112.00

They list my discounts as multi-policy (also have my boat with them), paid in full and homeowner (just being one, my homeowners is through allstate).

Liability NYS minimum. Sled is a '97 its worth 1k on a good day. Covers damage I cause to other things/people

EDIT: Sorry its $78.
I checked out progressive, quoted $107 for same coverage but I have nothing else with them so no multi discount.
