2011-2012 Snowmobile Season

Got the clutch kit installed, just need to dial it in once the ground freezes. Secondary should be all set with the helix and spring I put in. Primary will take a few passes to get weight and spring set up. I wont win any high speed runs with the big bores but should be a rocket corner to corner.

You guys should start posting pics and info. about your sleds.

New windshield is on. Not that much different though.

Butt dyno low 120’s but its heavy.
Some day I’ll upgrade but I have some sick sadistic love for this.

Used to ride with a guy who saddled one of these. Used to call it the “Kompressor” cause that’s what it did to his spine.

no doubt hard an the body. I have newer rear skid, longer Fox’s up front, risers, and zx seat so I sit higher up. Its ten times better than stock but still gives a pounding.

Sooooooo, when do you guys think trails will open? (technically, they opened yesterday, but obviously…). I’m saying middle of January…

I was out tonight for a few hours…on the wheeler.
Holy hell is it muddy. You guys better hope the ground freezes or the trails are just going to be complete shit.

Yeah, I’d really like to see a solid week of sub zero temps. My gut tells me that’s not gonna happen. We’ll get snow eventuallly but I think it’s gonna switch overnight. Keep hopin I guess.

1qikz i like the powdercoat, are you still getting the slydog skis?

my new ypipe and pipe is getting ceramic coated right now. hopefully will have my hood back from paint/airbrush any day now. ordering new track and studs tonight after work. putting some serious hook in it. repolished the tunnel and misc aluminum the other day, finished my torque arm last weekend. fixed my clutch alignment and set the torque arm last night as well as cleaned and adjusted the powervalves. also went through my clutches, got some ideas on tweaking the setup a bit. tonight ill be hitting all the grease zerks and pulling the rear skid to check it over.

edit…ill have to update my project thread tonight for the sled.

What you decide on for track and studs? I ended up just going with a stock 1.375 sno pro track. Now just gotta figure out about studding the track.

Isn’t that the 13.5 x 128 retarded track? I
IIRC 137 studs is the normal for that. Its been a few years so don’t hold me to that.

yeah, should see them in a couple weeks. They do production runs based on series, colors, patterns, etc. so I’m told next week they’re doing mine. I’ll have to wait and see. Just need to pop em on, align, and hit the grease fittings in the rear. Front end is lubed up like a porn star.

i went with a 121x15x1 hacksaw. going to run most likely 1.325 signature series studs. angled backers in the center and regulars on the outside.

137?!?!?!?! never heard of that one before. you may be thinking 136?

darek, i tend to like heavily studding, so i would put 204 in there. however you probably wont need that in yours, so if i were you i would look at going with 153. run too few studs and itll put excess pressure on each individual stud and they will tend to pull out or tear out easier. also make sure you have plenty of penetration, if you dont run enough they will actually hurt you, the snow will pack in and it wont help traction, itll also cause you to slide when braking. my last track had over 4k miles and not a single pull through or bent stud, and i was running 5/8" penetration past the lug. it hooked hard.

nice, look forward to seeing them on there.

i updated my build thread of my sled with the newest work.

Whats your cooling system consist of? Stock firecat style with side rails and a rear exchanger or tunnel coolers?
I just installed a tunnel cooler so my biggest concern is making sure to not stud anything but down the center. So I’m thinking something like this

Really just wanna stick to a pattern using double backers.

95dime, do you run upgraded drive sprockets or some other method to get your track not to skip? I was always a conservative studder. Never had a lot of power, but always was trying to keep just enough bite but not too much.

Spam, I use stock drivers. Never had an issue with slip. The f7 we race has a speed track and chisels and we’ve had a 1.26 60ft out of it on clay and that has stock drivers. That one has 204 chisels in it.

Darek, im curious where you mounted the coolers. My zr has them where the windows of the track are and at the front, so I only need to make sure I don’t go too long where id hit at the front. I like having more of a v pattern. The last firecat i did was a staggered v but make sure you keep shifting that template. You want as many scratch lines as possible but you want it to be balanced as well

The cooler is a “U” cooler that wraps around the inside of the tunnel right above where the windows of the track should end up. I will be changing from the 3.0 pitch drivers to 2.52 so that should be giving me more clearance up front. I just want to be cautious as this sled already has enough tunnel scars from studs. lol I would like to be able to launch off snow banks without worries of penetration. Although the sled is going from a 1.7 track w/ studs to this 1.375 track w/ whatever height studs I get.

You do keep a lot closer watch over your equipment than most people I know. I’ve always heard the crying @ the bar about slipping tracks and nonsense with added traction.

People with track/driver issues run them to loose.
