2014/2015 Snowmobile Season Thread

^^^Pendleton is problematic for a few reasons. A large portion of the trails are shared with atv’s in the summer. You end up with frozen ruts and often times just being missed by the lake effect bands you end up with low snow conditions. When we do get snow, the trails are shot in a day. So either your hitting frozen ruts or your hitting washed out turns or you get moguls where there actually is some snow. Living in Pendleton, I stopped riding around town. I went straight to NESS trails and I would ride out from there, whether it be north towards Carlton or south past the 90. I don’t really miss trail riding much because when I have gone, I was having to load up a trailer to go. That especially sucked because you can connect to the trail a couple hundred feet down the road from my house.

On a side note, Arcade snow drags is supposed to be February 8th.

Based on the Shawnee Sno Chief’s FB page Pendleton has a disproportionately high number of idiots too which never helps conditions.

I refuse to load up and go anywhere in WNY when I can ride out of my yard and deal with 10 miles of semi shitty trails and get to those spots where conditions are good. Pendleton hasn’t been as bad as you make it sound, they have done a good job cleaning up problem areas and maintaining them by not allowing use of ATV’s on most of them.

Right? The trails are all essentially the same in the end there will be good spots and bad spots and asshats out doing asshat things. Tug hill is almost not enjoyable some weekends due to the large amount of traffic and the trails will get whooped by noon. If I can ride out of my garage and put 60-100 miles on in a night I can deal with whatever conditions there are out there as long as there’s no open water or bare trails.

+1

I’d much rather ride WNY on the weekends than Tug Hill. Way too much traffic and way too many idiots up there.

Tug Hill has some amazing riding but we generally will take a day or two off and go up during the week.

Just did two laps around my front yard while my neighbors looked at me like an idiot. That’s enough for tonight. Dropping tomorrow at the farmers market in Clarence and heading to Alden around 10 to see if any of you guys are there.

Good luck snow is very fluffy. Shawnee hasn’t officially opened yet although I see the groomer has been out and there were marks on the trail around 1-2pm. Hopefully it will work in nicely and give a decent base. I need to do some test and tuning!! Did about 10mi around some fields getting a feel for the new suspension gears and clutching, cant wait to hit some hard pack

Hope no one’s riding in the southern tier. Snowing way too hard to even drive.

Oh, you’re funny there. Don’t blame me for technological failures.

Hahaha

Did 150 miles up north today w/ @Shockwave179. I’m pretty beat right meow. Have fun tomorrow!

That trail doesn’t go on the reservoir like it used to does it?

There are unmarked trails that jet off C5 and S43 onto the reservoir. Were they once marked all the way into the res? That image above shows our dark blue line from last March where we cruised out there and drag raced a bit. I’m not sure if it’s frozen yet, we didn’t look today.

Just rode from Alden to Kodiak Jacks and back to Whistle Stop in Alden. Can’t complain about the trails, a few bumpy fields but enough snow to ride…looking forward to the weekend.

Been years since I’ve been up there. Went with people who knew the trails well. Remember burning up half a tank doing wide open pulls for a few miles. Good times.

Trails around marilla are very nice, no water holes and only a few lights spots in the open blown fields. Hitting up Byrncliff and the Lodge tonight around 9. How are the rest of the trails looking?

Let us know how Byrncliff is. We’re thinking of either dropping there or Bliss tomorrow morning.

Plenty of sleds out Eden way. Can’t speak to the trails but we got close to 2’ last night.
