Here is the new truck… 2014 F150 5.0 FX2 loaded nav and sunroof. Had the back windows limo’d over the factory smoked glass, tonneau cover. bed liner and mudtech floor mats. Once she is out of warrantee I’ll do something stupid to her.
So I had most bolt on stuff and a tune, truck ran very well. Trans let go at 48K miles purchased a BRAND NEW TRANS from Ford and put the truck back to stock. They new trans ended up having a bad bearing in it, less then 50 miles on the trans 3rd gear blew through the side of the case hitting the turbo. A mixture of hot tranny fluid, oil and coolant + sparks started it on fire. Burnt the truck down in November. Ford tried giving me shit about it being modded even though it was stock and they re-issued a 3 year unlimited mileage warrantee when I spent $6K+ on a trans for a 2012 F150 that stickered a hair under $50K. They JUST ended up settling for like $35K credit on another Ford. Ended up with another F150 this time with the 5.0 (had to be from dealer stock, otherwise I would have ordered an FX2 with the 6.2L).
If you buy a Ford and want it to be fast with their auto6 pull the trans out and send it off to circle D or someone to do the oil and cooling mods and put in a decent stall with billet shafts. The suck stock, I had nothing but issues with the trans.
The Ecoboost engines are OK, but they still haven’t really figured out the condensation issues with them. Google ecoboost condensation or studder, they pretty much gather water in the intercooler then suck it up when you need power and she falls on her face. Happened a TON to me before I put in the big intercooler and modded her up.
I wouldn’t buy an EcoBoost but that’s just me… and its not because mine failed they just don’t have them dialed in yet.
If you want a fast truck get a 5.3L chevy, toss in a cam or turbo it. Make great power, be able to tune it and last forever.
Also to be fair, Gullo Ford here in North Houston is a GREAT dealership to work with. Luke is a great sales man and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from him again.
