2016/2017 snowmobile season

I was planning on going to Tug Hill today and tomorrow. Since things opened locally I scrapped that plan and went out for a ride through Tri-county and Pioneer trails. The snow was thin, there were a couple rough spots, nothing difficult to pass though. There were also a few areas that were actually in top condition. Overall, much better than I thought.

I plan to go out in Franklinville tomorrow, hopefully Cherry Creek will open up.

Were those trails officially open?

Yes.

Tri country, Franklinville, Ashford, Snowbounders.

And to find this out requires searching facebook, going back through pages to find posts, reading through the comments. The whole process SUCKS. They really need to figure out a way to post open/closed.

I think with most clubs being volunteer driven and supported it makes things like this less than current.

Just got back from Tug. Went sat - Tues. Did about 300 miles, conditions were pretty good had a few shots of rain but it tightened right back up. Does not look too good after this week with the warm temps though.

We’re planning on a late January trip.

Did about 30-40 miles in Cherry Creek today. Conditions were nice for the most part.

Just about got it all back together, greased, and ready for the trails.

noice I always wanted to ride a firecat.

I banged out the clutch and top end rebuild on the Rush last night.

You actually checked the ring gap? Most people toss it together and run it.

Yeah, it takes a whole 5 minutes so why not. As it turned out, the rings measured within spec and didn’t require any filing.

Looks like up north and the counties south of Buffalo are going to be getting hit with a good amount of snow in the next few days. Hope to get some riding in this weekend and break in the new sled.

Yeah, hopefully we’re turning the corner here.

…and next week looks like shit. Temps in the high 30’s with rain/snow mix a couple days. We trailered last week down to Chaffe a couple times and rode Tricounty and Franklinville. Trails were pretty awesome for this early in the season, groomed all the way from Chaffe to Franklinville.

I know Holland/Springville/West Valley got hit pretty good last night with snow. Hoping it moves north a little bit so maybe I can ride from my house (Colden trails haven’t been open yet, and fuck trailering).

I have never thought I would want to get on one, but, Snowracers pics make it look like a fucking blast, just not around here.

Have 2 friends in Tug now, said they are getting pounded with snow. I’m heading to Ontario, they are also getting pounded with snow.

I plan to meet them tonight after work, but they are saying it’s so much snow they can’t even see when they’re riding, so I’m not sure yet.

Hopefully there will be some local riding this weekend.

Be careful riding in storms. Sounds like fun until you get on a section that you can’t see trail or markers. Did that years ago and a miracle the three of us didn’t spend the night in the snow.

Just got a text that one of them got stuck on the trail. Plus with the way the band is crossing 81, along with the line at work just going down, I’m thinking I won’t make it up there anyway.

Hopefully we get a good amount of local clubs opening for my day off tomorrow.
