240sx Auto-5 speed Conversion?

Basically I have an opportunity to buy my girlfriend’s brother’s 1991 240sx which is in very good cosmetic shape but is having some problems starting. Unfortunately the car is an automatic, if i were to get this i would most definitely want to convert it to a manual. I’ve always been a Honda guy so i know virtually nothing about working on these and I’m just wondering if this is feasible conversion for someone who’s never worked on a 240sx before. Thanks!

Its not a hard swap provided you have all the parts needed.

As is true with any swap, no holes to drill or anything crazy like that?

anyone else with other input?

drill one hole and rewire 2 wires, the rest is mechanical and straightforward as long as you have all the parts. (besides pulling out the auto pilot bushing, never again)

Thanks for the advice so far! Now what about a complete swap, like to an SR20 or RB20? I’m curious because i know how easy many swaps are on Honda’s but wonder if this would be doable with my lack of knowledge with nissans.

google that one your self. lol

they are pretty easy if u can do wiring. sr is almost direct bolt in, rb is a lil more work, u the net u will find the info

oh a lil trick for the neutral safety switch wiring is the 2 thickest wires are the ones u need to splice in 2 make it work.

dont worry about switching to the manual ecu either, with the auto ecu and manual trans. you won’t have a top speed limiter.

cut the green wire with yellow stripe to remove it too. #42 I think?(its been a looooong time, lol)

its easier just to not switch ecu’s, plus thats just an added cost. no need for a manual ecu

ill have a 5 speed ecu and tranny in a few weeks…maybe the trans mount too

i have an sr and ka trans if youd like to come grab em cheap!!

and a pretty complete ka/sr swap
