240SX Gear Oil Change

OK, so everybody is clear about this: when attempting to change the gear oil on a 240SX, make sure you can undo the fill plug first before you drain the tranny. All the forum installs say so, and I’m repeating it. Why? Because I didn’t listen and drained the tranny first. (The freaking drain plug came out with no issues at all.) The fill plug (a reversed half-inch drive! What the hell is that all about!?) would not budge. We nearly ripped the tranny out trying to get it to move. But we pride ourselves on getting the job done, no matter how ghetto our methods, thus witness our attempts at pouring the oil over the gear box hoping it would it would absorb somewhere:

Laugh all you want. It actually worked.

you can take snap ring plyers to take the shifter out and works a lot easier thats what i did

Good job thats what most S Chassis owners have been doing for years…And taking the shifter out helps alot.

Sheeesh, no kidding. I’ve never even tried to remove the fill plug on a RWD nissan tranny. Pop out the shifter, so much easier.

or if you dont have snap ring plyers you can take the 6 bolts off the tranny and the whole assembly will come off.

duct tape FTW

shit sorry to hear that was so much trouble. you sure that was a reverse fill plug?

i had some issues on mine but wd-40 and a long breaker bar worked fine for me…

maybe the last person that serviced the car, at a dealer when it was newer, or maybe never, forgot the teflon tape or sealant :stuck_out_tongue:

the only concern i have is how do you know you have filled your tranny up to the right level?
