Fuck that.
as with everyone else, in my daily driver id probably do it. in my dsm/weekend car - prob not. But - if that list is correct and you can remove it when you want - maybe.
Im also kind of thinking this will be good for the 16-25 age group, as we seem to get effed with insurance premiums, even with 6 years of clean driving. Especially if they are on their parents insurance and they see ‘oh, i can save 30% if you put this device in my kids car to make sure they are driving safe’.
After reading through the link, heres a few things that make me not want to do it:
Your driving snapshot includes the number of miles you drive, time of day you drive and how often you make sudden stops. People who drive less, in safer ways and during safer times of day could get a discount.
You can view your projected discount by logging into your policy and after 30 days, your discount will take effect—saving you up to 30 percent.
Could get a discount? as in - not everyone does regardless of having this in the car?
and it sounds like the same thing every insurance company pitches - it could save you up to 30%
but on the other hand:
In most states, we’ll apply any discount you earn about 30 days after you plug in your Snapshot device. Then, when you renew your policy, we’ll finalize your discount—based on a complete, six-month snapshot of your driving—and you’ll keep it for as long as you’re insured by Progressive. However, if you make a significant change to your policy, we might ask you to take a new snapshot of your driving. Find out how Snapshot works in your state.
So, now that i know this isnt a permantly affixed thing and you only keep it for 6 months, i could put this in my winter/daily car for 6 months in winter, driving ‘safe’, then the discount is applied as long as you dont ‘make a significant change to your policy’, and enjoy all the discounts as i drive retarded in the summer lol.
with my age - and premiums - not gonna lie im considering it.
No way.
nopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. stupid
I think they’d revoke my discount within several days. No thanks.
no fucking way in hell would i participate in this
Piss! I was really hoping they’d want to put a camera in my car. I’d be a jerk and drive real nice but pick my nose, pull my wiener out, pick up hookers, litter, call in bomb threats (handsfree of course!) etc. That would rule
Being a creep doesn’t mean I’m not a safe driver!
sounds cool,
I can mount it right on the roll cage
EZ mount discount?
5point harness discount ?
Put a piece of tape over it when you take it to the track. How hard is that. If they ask why it isn’t working just say “I don’t know?”. I imagine it doesn’t work until the key is on.
Progressive Insurance was one of the leading contributors to the Obama Presidential campaign.
George Soros is a major stockholder.
Fuck that shit…
No fucking way
This was exactly what I was thinking when I read this bullshit. Or it could go so far as to become mandated like how those fucking loosers have those things they have to blow in to get their cars to start cause they have 56348564564 dwi’s. And they want to see you drive under the state imposed speed limits-that is the fucking dumbest shit fucking thing I have heard in a LONG time. Drive 50mph on the 33 and see how well that works
Maybe, maybe if I got free insurance or 90% off, I’d consider it, but for 30% that fucking annoying bitch can fist herself and shove that fucking annoying lizard up her cunt.
Hmm…they just moved up a notch in my book. GEICO is owned by Warren Buffett who also contributed to Obama so I’m good but that’s good to know for a backup.
You’re a bit slow, huh
I wanna sign up and do track days.
Or just sign up and put it in the the miata. I’m sure they would be thrilled…
So if you get one and drive like a maniac, do they just revoke your discount, or do you’re rates suddenly skyrocket? Obviously anyone who doesn’t drive like a grandma isn’t going to opt for this, so only the “safe” drivers will get them. What’s the point of collecting that data? Sounds like a way to slowly get people used to Big Brother in their cars. My answer would be “FUCK NO!” no matter what the discount.
well its a new car, and i have no tickets.
i think most people my age are probably paying that also.
So do they drop my insurance when this box triggers a 30-180mph run every Friday morning? lol
on the 45 feeders? or the drifiting and shredding of the cloverleafs by the woodlands mall? used to tear that up all the time just for fun late at night when I lived in Spring.
No not at all. I didn’t read it though. This is the data it collects.
The Snapshot device collects:
Time of day and vehicle speed, which helps determine how many miles you drive and how often you make sudden stops.
When the device is connected and disconnected from the vehicle.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)The Snapshot device doesn’t contain GPS technology or track vehicle location. It also doesn’t track whether you’re exceeding the speed limit.

I thought it was a camera, but it’s not.
