Definitely,its not a camera…
except on some cars to accss the DLC requires removal of certain things (VW) or would interfere with the armrest (Volvo).
Thinking about it, lack of GPS makes this absolutely pointless.
It should be pretty straightforward to create a device that outputs OBD-2 info which indicates that the car is never driven over 55mph. Their device can even keep its own time, the one I have in mind will only feed it info at off-peak traffic hours. It’d never have to talk to the car’s actual obd-2 port.
I can’t see how they wouldn’t monitor your vehicle speed though. I’m sure they’d like to know exactly how fast you drive. As far as them watching you making sudden hard stops. Do you think they just monitor to see if the ABS kicks on or something like that?
Maybe they don’t record top speed but its probably pretty easy to figure out that you were in gear and moving at XXX mph and went to 0 then back to X again.
If they’re 100% open about what they’re logging and how they act on the results I don’t really see any issue putting this in a DD.
Ha… I’d be canceled within a week of installing that. I don’t see a problem with it for a lot of people though.
fuck progressive, they raised my rates $600+ a year for moving from AZ to WA
I can imagine some tuners having fun with this. Altering the tire size or gearing in the computer so the speedometer never reads above 40mph, lol.
dont get me wrong im not siding with any automotive insurance company cause they are all scammers BUT to be fair im sure they pay out a hell of a lot more in WA vs AZ…
I guess the chances of hitting a deer is higher, but theft in southern Arizona… MEH.
what about winter driving?
what about driving amongst snowbirds?
FUUUUUUUCK NO…
Yes sir, I live off Research Forest I drive by the Woodlands mall daily. Weekends are bad down here for me, I can hardly avoid going to car meets. Too many sweet cars and fun things to do. hahah
