I’ve tried many a time, some succesful, some not, to drift that s2000. The realitiy is, it’s weight balance, wheelbase, and suspension engineering work against drifting. You don’t buy an s2000 to drift it, you buy an s2000 to put it right to the extreme point of handling and enjoy that it holds on; stock. It does what it was intended to do very well, but once you lose it, good luck getting it back.
Say what you will about the S2K’s shorter wheelbase and its inability to drift. Its not always the car, in the end, its still the driver that makes the car do things. It may just be that you suck at driving S2000’s or cars with short wheelbases…
If you’re intent on claiming what you will about the S2K’s short wheelbase and its inability to drift, take izzo’s statement regarding the Miata into a count.
Its not the car, its the driver. As corny and old as it sounds, its still the truest statement you can find. With enough determination and skill, people can make x perform better than y.
Take for instance the AE86 versus its more powerful and more technologically advanced competition.
But either way, the S2000 gets my vote. People here need to stop being biased. Honda’s aren’t just riced out torque-less econoboxes. Honda makes engines, no, they make great engines. The amount of engineering they put into their engines is amazing. They make cars that handle very well. Yes, many are FWD, but they’re among the best handling FWD’s out there, especially the double-wishbone EK Civics.
Really? I was always under the impression that their top speed wasn’t that great. 350’s on the other hand have MASSIVE top end. My car accelerates pretty hard all the way up to the speed cut at 260km/h (not that I’ve ever attempted this on a public road in Ontario, I obey the law :D) I’d be really impressed if an S2K could take a 350Z in a highway pull.
s2000 is more of a real sports car imo. I wouldn’t take a 350z even though either car I would strip down anyways… i’d still take s2000. Only weakness imo about the s2000 is power but that can be taken care of plus to me corners are more always fun…
This is what I’d do: buy a 350Z and yank out the VQ and sell the motorset. That should be good for around 5K right? Anyway, I’d lick up a. RB26DETT motorset, get a Tomei headgasket, Tomei cams, Jun crank collar casings, ARP headstuds, use the Skyline rad, run a Trust oil cooler with custom lines, run a custom manifold, turbo elbow, downpipe, and exhaust. Maybe have the injectors reflowed, custom intake, several gauges and a boost controller.
It cost what 10K, to have a forced induction setup put in your Z? I’d rather go somewhere like Union with my idea and let them create my vision. I am sure for the 10K it’d cost to do that VQ the guys at Union could probably have you pushing a more reliable 400+HP in an RB26 Z. You could shave a lot of the cost selling the VQ set alone, so it wouldn’t be too far out there. That’s what I’d do personally. Just an idea.
350z motorsets are not worth anywhere near $5k fyi. Hell the 370z motors are going for $5k-7k. I sold my '06 motor for $1800, and anything but the CD009 trans is only worth $500 or less.
is s2k harder to drift because of the vtec starting point??? is it because your vtec might kick in when your in middle of the drift???
here is the reason why s2k is bothering me to make up my mind… i was all up for 350z since it has a sick vq35 which has good mount of hp and tq. with vdc fuss out and stiff coilover i would love it. since i drove a few g35 in past time.
but s2k in the other hand… yeah its a 4 banger with not that great of tq. but its way lighter then 350z, your motor sits more to the back, and well i am only used to motorcycles but… when it comes down to maintence nothing beats honda… i ve exprienced the f3 going over 15000km with out a single oil change…
thats why its bothering me…
so please people… when you vote please explain little bit of more detail about it… not just NISMO > HOMO… is so please explain why NISMO is better then HOMO.
If you have decent potential you will be bored in 2 weeks. Not enough power son. I am not telling you to go out and be Dave Briggs now. Run stock boost first, and then turn it up.
I have never owned any of those two, but i have afriend that has had an s2k for 2 years now and he beats on it like a drunk truckers wife and he never broke anything, just a set of tires every month, Had a ride in both, s2k feels like a track/race car compared to the Z who just feels like your average sports car
honestly v-tec is kinda cool on the s2k with a short ram , not like those shitty b18 or h22 garbage , wich is all noise and no go…
^^^^^^^^^^^^ LMFAO… id say 350z better car all around besides maybe fuel consumption, just do a pros cons thing… bust out a pen and paper and have at it, list the real pros and cons besides just look at this 350z lol
