Not sure, trying to get the build sheet from the guy. If I get this set up it will be a forged rotating assembly, gen v, cam, ported heads, and some nitrous. since I’m not spending the money on an intercooler I’d be ok with 350hp with a 75hp shot on top for fun.

You could 5.3 out of an impala SS but how would it be manual tranny then?
I don’t think the v8 would fit, the v6 hardly does.
A while back I did see a build where someone swapped an LS1 into a 1990 Z24. That required MAJOR body modifications, though.
That would be soooooooo awesome. Especially if it was black! I finally picked up a near flawless Z and was wondering if I should do something fun with it.
3400 is an easy good swap
@misteroman I did this swap on a '93 Z24. I had it running and back on the road in less than two weeks. (With working and only spending a couple hours at a time on it.) That was my first major car project too. It could easily be done in a weekend. Mine put down 200 WHP and 220 WTQ. Not bad for a little cavy.
Im a huge LSx guy but I wouldn’t swap LS1 into one of those…
If anything find a way to turbo the 3800
Done and reliable? I remember on the on cavy website, guy put a 3.5 or 3500 if u will and had nightmare s with it . I remember the one big problem was something with linkage. I really considered doing something but should do something with the iroc first. Had it back for 6 yrs now and haven’t even touched it yet!!!
the 3400 is pretty much a newer version of the 3100 so it pretty much all bolts up.
Very reliable. I beat the hell out of that car and it never gave me a problem. I was seriously impressed with how well it held up.
3.5s are basically the updated versions of the 3400. If you find a clean, low miles engine, I’m sure it would be fine.
saw this at a pick and pull and thought of this thread

you could turbo or m90 the 3.4 dohc:

oh gawd the dohc 3.4, talk about a bastard of an engine haha
changed the timing belt on one of these once…never again.
I’d love to have one of these with the m90, cut open the timing cover and have all of those belts exposed.
How do you get an M90 on that dohc 3.4?
I could be wrong but its a 60° v6, I think the power steering would have to be relocated and a custom pulley made. prob a lot easier to turbo. I turbo’d a 3400(non dohc) by replicating the cross pipe with a turbo manifold for a single turbo, turbo sat just above the tranny.
I think you’d need a custom lower intake manifold, or side mount it. I wouldn’t bother.
Ya my mistake, forgot the 3800 is a 90°. same bellhousing as the 60° motors I believe.
