Hey I just wanted to know if you guys think the 5 lug conversion it really worth it. I’d like to get some feedback from some guys that actually did the 5 lug 300zx conversion, mostly if the brakes work much better than the stock 240sx ones. I know they obvoiusly brake much harder, but I’ve heard a couple of people say they are too strong for the 240 and they lock too easily. Also would also know wheres the cheapest place to get 5 lug conversion kits because I dont want ot go through the trouble of swapping in the s14 conversion.
Z32 provide the braking factor
5-lug provide the bling factor
I went with 5-lug because I just wanted to, so I could have options for
different wheels and because it made it easier to clear Z32 brakes. :dunno:
Do what your budget permits.
you can get Z brakes without going 5 lug, just re-drill the rotors… this is very commong and i have done it myself.
the only reason to go 5-lug is for wheel choices.
i just went 5 lug and i can say that it is not worth it if you can find a wheel you want to run in 4 lug.
you will end up spending $500 - $700 on 5 lug no matter what unless you are ghetto fabulous and hit the wreckers for used everything.
i got used R32 rear hubs off SON and went with Attain front hubs because switching to S14 front 5 lug was the same price considering you have to buy the sleeves for the front suspension bolts and the ball joints for both sides. that is all on top of getting the hub and spindle which is bound to cost you a couple hundred by its self.
the advantage of doing S14 5 lug is that you can an extra degree or two in camber up front. that is only an advantage if you cant hit your desired camber up front which is typically not a problem if you have camber plates anyways
if you are not going to run $2500+ wheels there is no need to go 5 lug.
Thanks for the feedback, also seeing how im doing at least the 300zx brake conversion for sure would it also be smart to swap the stcok master brake cylinder for the 300zx cylinder?
You can also get wheel spacers that change 4 lug to 5 lug
Mael
300zx brakes, best upgrade for a 240 period.
5 bolt is worth it if you can get the hubs for cheap, besides everyone knows s14 5 spokes, 300zx tt rims, and r33 rims are just jdm tyte on s13’s…
dont u lose ur e-brakes with the z32 brake swap?
If you do rear, you have to convert to the drum type setup the Z32 uses.
Personally, if you have the time, paitence and the parts, don’t even
bother with rear z32 brakes.
i have been searching for a good deal attain or GTO 5lug front hubs for a while… everywhere it costs 400-450
PDM has a sale on their steel 5lug hubs for 350
Peak enforces a price fix on their products, the $350 usd is regular price… plus shipping and one tax.
i have Attain hubs and i can bring them up for anyone.
prolly around $465 cdn or so after everything.
its not worth it, there is really no reason to switch
IMO
5 lug is worth it u have such a huge rim selection
doooooooooooo ittttttttt
z32 brakes doooooooo ittttttttt too… those brakes are the best upgrades unless u wanna go bigger? O___O
With brakes you can just stick to stock brakes with upgraded pads, upgraded brake booster, and lines. That is more than enough power for the car.
Only reason to go 5 lug I think is for the bad ass rims, that cost large amounts of cash. If you are going to do that then go for it. Although I believe if you buy brand new you can get a ton of 4lug bad ass rims anyway. They just might cost you a bit more.
for breaks you can even get 180sx brakes, I would say best bang for the $$
ppffff… dont you roll on Kosei’s?
eeeeewwwwww.
but yeah, if you arent running super balla wheels you dont need 5 lug.
yeah some kosei 16x7.5 4x114 rims… i can fit on 255 hoosiers which are more than enough tire for a 2600lb car even with silly power
plus the 30mm brakes fit with no issue…only hassle is drilling the rotors
for some reason quite a few people here are either saying flat out or implying that z32 brakes will give you more stopping power or “harder braking”.
Just to clarify that is absolutely not true… although a very common misconception.
The only advantage is that the stock 240sx brakes fade quickly so any car being driven on a track will likely benefit quite a lot… in every day driving… even fairly spirited driving on the streets the stock brakes will perform exactly the same.
coles: 60mph - 0mph distance is the same z32:stock, possibly worse due to brake bias being thrown off (… i guess technically if the stock bias is not optimal though the bias with the z32 brakes could be a bit better… im not sure on that one)
any one know of any conversion kits that will let you keep your handbrake with the 300zx brake conversion?
