54.5 mpg's by 2025...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – Calling it “the most important step we’ve ever taken in reducing our nation’s dependence on foreign oil,” President Obama announced a proposed new round of fuel economy standards for cars and trucks sold in the United States that would double the average mileage by 2025.
Under the proposed plan, the combined fuel economy of all cars and light trucks sold in 2025 would have to increase to an average of 54.5 miles per gallon, or nearly double the current figure. They’d ramp up to that level over seven years, starting in 2017 when current rules end.
Cars are expected to get an average of 62 mpg in 2025, while trucks should average 44 mpg.
The proposal was announced in a Washington ceremony at which the president was flanked by auto industry leaders, including the heads of General Motors (GM, Fortune 500), Chrysler, Toyota (TM)'s U.S. arm and the United Auto Workers union.

Won’t happen.

it would if they’d give us MOAR DIESEL!!!

you stupid politician faggots ill fuck all your asses.

Fucking stupid

This x10000000

Diesel should be the fuel to focus on, if there were more diesels like the TDI then gas powered cars they could hit that goal by 2015!

It takes about 4 years for a car to go from idea to production.

Good luck with that.

Yeah, I can really see a fullsize truck getting 44 mpg. I would think these politicians would want us driving something getting 4 mpg because their pockets are lined with gas money.

Yep and hands are covered in blood of innocent blonde blue eyes children.

And they take turns to fly around and drop Chem trails from their private jets on states that voted for the other party.

:facepalm

wow the amount of stupidity here always surprises me.

yes this needs to happen. deal with it.

this is also down from 62mpg

by 2050 they don’t want any vehicles produced anymore that use oil for fuel.

because no politicians own oil fields or are lobbied money by oil companies, right?

Its an impossible goal, especially for trucks considering how few even break 20 mpg.

Because according to you all politicians own oil fields.

Where is your data for lobbying?

How does oil lobbying compare to other lobbyists value wise?

Its known facts/news that oil money plays a big part in government.

Oil is important because almost everybody in the country depends on it in one way or another. Therefore they tax and charge the fuck out of it and make more money.

It’s actually a very realistic goal, unlike Obama’s call for 1,000,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2015. Considering several SUPERCARS are now using hybrid technology, I’d be surprised to NOT see cars getting easily 55+ mpg by 2025. I really wish the USA embraced diesel more than we have, as that would help get cars w/ better gas mileage as shown by what we have already. I know some companies are experimenting with hybrid diesels which I guess would be the best of both worlds.
I don’t know why so many people are against the use of technology, especially those that complain about gas prices and gas mileage.

PJB just likes to bitch and whine about everything, he comes on here to complain because he has a crappy job with his crappy life and instead of making himself better he wants to bring everyone down to his level with his negative output on life.

I don’t see how this is an unrealistic goal in any way and on top of that its one of the few things Obama is doing right in my opinion.

This doesnt seem to be about diesel vehicles, it seems to be about gas powered vehicles.

Sure you might be able to get a little shitbox to get 55 mpg but theres no way a fullsize truck is going to get 44 mpg. Even a hybrid Silverado is barely getting 20 mpg on the highway. Ford has an F150 that gets 21 mpg but its got the shitty underpowered small v8 and its 2wd.

And people have to want electric cars. Mandating them being produced is just stupid because I fail to see a demand for 1 million cars that can only go a few hundred miles without being charged. That would mean every parking lot would need to be updated with plugs and electricity.

How often do you go more than a few hundred miles at a time?

Do you follow any regular logic AT ALL?

Theres quite a few times I drive more than 100 miles a day. Not everyday but often.

I dont want any pansy ass electric toaster piece of shit to drive in. I like my truck even though it only gets 16-17 mpg and wont trade it in on something that plugs into a wall.

Electric cars have always been a major fail. Even GM bought all the ones they made back and crushed them because they realized how much they sucked.

How often do you think the average person drives more than “a few hundred miles” a day?

Rarely.

But your logic a scooter is a stupid product that would never sell. Can’t go highway speeds, open to the elements, can throw shit in it like in your back of the truck and you look gay. Yet they are probably the best selling transport on the planet.

Pussy ass toaster? You do realize that an electric motor has more performance abilities than a combustion motor? Most of them are only ONE SPEED with a few having multiple gears yet they can put down the power without needing gears to maximize the tq as they get it as 0 RPM.

You’re no better than hillbillies from the 70’s that still call the Jap cars “junk” without realizing that they dominate the market place and Honda/Toyota/Nissan were by far superior products to domestic junk.

Give it a decade or two and you will be being smoked by electric toasters while you’re sitting there with your mustang still not running.

*Disclaimer I personally hate electric cars and bikes and even RC cars. ICM all the way.

Saying an electric car can be fast/powerful is like saying a Yugo can be fast because it has an engine so therefore its capable of running 8’s in the 1/4.

Not all electric motors are capable of being fast, just like gas engines. Sure the technology might be there but its not applied to every EV.

The early imports were disposable cars that were likely to only last about 5 years before they rusted to shit and parts were unobtainable. How often do you see a '70’s import on the road? Certainly not as often as you see an old domestic car. At most car shows theres a handful of imports yet 100’s or thousands of domestics.

I’m not talking about the early imports, I’m talking about the stubborn rednecks you still see that look down on all imports and call them junk just because of what happened 30 years ago without them being able to wrap their head around the fact that things change and their “superior” big 3 needs bailing out as their cars are complete shit for the last few decades.

Gas vs electric in performance is a hard comparison on many levels and it won’t be solved on this board but so far electric bikes are quite a strong force even though they haven’t been around all that long in serious research and development and Tesla being a first generation EV sports car does rather well.

You’re wrong at one aspect though, while ICE require an entirely different design between high HP vs good MPG, electric motors are nearly one and and the same, may just require more batteries or a slightly bigger unit.

This thing does 0-60 in 4 seconds and handles like it’s on rails because most of it’s weight is within a foot of the ground.

*insert a stupid unrelated PJB remark as he wouldn’t be seen dead in one of these thing, he wouldnt fit in it, looks like a toaster and how it’s unsafe, completely missing the point of power out put and performance figures

Biggest issue with EV is the price has not dropped as they are not mass produced enough yet. Once you can buy a $15K electric car, they will be everywhere.
