570sx Ultimate doom build up (LS1-LS6 into a s13)

ran a turbo KA24e racing for 6 years…and it was very fast , ran 24psi boost on race fuel out put was over 400whp 450ftlbs …however the thermal issues and high duty cycle sucked for road racing…

so…there is no replacement for displacement… as they say…

bought a LS1, had it rebuilt, hinson headers, did a custom front crosmember, and driveshaft, Kazz 1.5 rear end, and speartech ECU/harness. Bam…one winter later it was up and running…

ran a straight 3 inch exhaust no cats out of the headers…

used my 2 core turbo rad to keep the heat under control…added 275 front tires and 315 rear tires to keep the power to the ground…

bone stock 1998 Ls1 does low 12’s

this year I just picked up the parts to turn it into a LS6…basically adding at least another 80hp to the engine… new cam, heads, and intake manifold. So It should dyno in the 380-430rwhp range…and if I were to drag race maybe high 11’s

biggest issues so far have been shearing hubs from the torque…and later in teh seaon shered through a diff…lucky my Kazz 1.5 did not get hurt…

basically dont drag race these cars with stock rear ends and hubs… the grip of the 315 R tires is too much

only odd thing on the build up was that I had to convert the retun fuel system into a returnless fuel system due to the LS1 engine…

car does 1:31’s with the Ls1 engine at mosport with me driving (lots of time left on the table)
it does 1:18’s at calabogie only been there once so I am sure I could knock off a few seconds more easy once I learn the track

ohh… tranny is a T-56 6 speed out of a viper/mustang/camero…so far been a great tarnny…no issues

with the rear diff gearing gives it a top speed of 190mph(304kph) in 6th… fastest I have had it up to is 253kph on the back straight of Mosport…and it still had lots of legs left

for comparison slightly modded Ka24e does 171kph on the back straight

that’s bad ass. Mind me asking where you sourced the motor set and what the damage was $ ?

If I was gonna do it again…would have just gone crate motor

total engine tranny build up was about 8k or so

Adam, your picture taking (… sizing and hosting) abilities need to be as good as your fast car-making-abilities

please keep the updates coming.

it would be nice to see you bring this car to a CSCS event and show everyone up.

I always wondered about that… when I go v8… what to do about the rear stock hubs?.. What are you planning?

using stock rear hubs… and now NOT drag racing even for fun

i did a few passes on the stock hubs and they let go very quick

hmmm CSCS eh… will have to look up the event dates

So… how fast of a time does this turn at mosport?

Wheel fitment/tire choice/tractor differences aside… respect is due where respect is deserved.

1:31 with him driving. According to his first post, :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah yeah i’m retarded.

Bad ass car, more pics are needed. Especially of that tire setup.

Re: track times…I am sure if a driver with more experiance at Mosport was at the wheel the times would be lower by 1-2 seconds at least…Sasha would be able to get the car into the 1:28’s probably

a few more pics of the build up

t-56 tranny pic and tranny mount pic…note t-56 fits through stock shifter opening…and it a 6 speed

and pic of engine when it was first bolted in…alll shiny clean and new

nice setup adam, I always wanted a v8, maybe Ill come to you, if I decided to put an ls1 in the s14 lol

I’m amused and conflicted by that.

I really thought this car would be right there with Sandra (Sasha’s old S14) and / or that you would be just as commanding as him on the track.

As for CSCS, it’s not nearly what you’re used to i would imagine but it would still be cool to see guys like you show up and teach some of the younger guys how it’s done.

The last events i’ve been to had some very serious cars on the track… Sasha in Briggs’ S14 didnt even win… he got beat by a badical integra.

I dont have near as much experiance at the big track as at say… DDT… DDT I think I would win just cause I probably have 2000+ laps there…and there is really no risk with driving like a lunatic on the track cause the speeds are lower. You really have to have alot of respect at Mosport big track it will either kill you or destroy your car if you don’t…neither of which is any fun

I only get to the Mosport big track 2 days per season MAX…which puts you at a huge disadvantage to guys racing thier all season long…simple as that

remember this car as it sits only has a base LS1 that was only rated at 305hp from the factory…so its not that crazy yet… once we get the Ls6 parts into the engine it will really start to shine on the big tracks…

its all an ongoing project

I looked at the CSCS lap time results at TMP…and yes it looks like I would do VERY well there…most likely set FTD for sure in the top 3 no problem…as long as its not raining that day …and heck all I would have to add is the door panels and could even run in the lower classes according to the rule set

might bring the car out one event this year for fun…will see how the schedule works out…

what this car is really good at is laying rubber…2 black stripes even with the big tires

this thing must be fawked.

Too bad it’s such an expensive swap! might aswell go RB/JZ

yeah its expensive…however…power upgrades are cheap…and skys the limit on power…

you can easily get 500+hp out of these engines in NA form…

Adam, what did you do to address cooling issues if any? I’m having a serious cooling issue with mine at these temps we’re having.

used a dual core rad with dual fans…other than that nothing…cars runs nice and cool…

So I decided to get a baseline dyno done before I start ripping into the engine next winter with my LS6 upgrades…and am pleasantly suprized (not that I will be submitting the dyno since its not to my advantage, its way better taking the 4 pips into the performance parts added) all the "LS"series engines dyno above thier rated crank outputs I thought it would dyno in around 300-310 or so (its rated at 305hp at the crank from the factory) these engines respond very crazily to mods however…all I have however is long tube race headers, air intake, no cats, and free flow straight 3 inch exhaust…

the engine is a real stump puller thats for sure…came out with 334rwhp, and 350ftlbs torque…not bad for the most gutless LS1 they make…basically at idle it has over 300ftlbs torque…which now I know why its hard to get this thing out of tight corners…he he…the Ls6 engine is rated at 385hp…and this motor after the upgrade based on this dyno should lay out maybe 400-420 at the wheels  (wont be claiming that dyno either  )

now if I can just get the power to the ground and get the handling sorted out!!

I envy you… I was just thinking about an LS1 swap, bit into the future. I don’t know if its worth it for DD, and just go with an SR like the rest of the world has…
