70 layoff's at fisherprice in EA

Shit, my dad and step mom have worked there forever- hopefully they are still employed. I still remember the layoffs they did in the 90’s.

does Mike still work there?? he did 2 days ago

If McCain was elected this wouldn’t have happened.

Truth. At Toyota they had actual Cops with the plant security escort people out. How embarassing is that to have to walk about a 1/2 mile through a plant full of your coworkers out to your car.

It obviously isn’t the most compassionate way to do it, but it’s how it needs to be done.

Yeah, it is how most companies do it. My father WAS the director of marketing for the company I work for. They released him, all of the vice presidents and the other Director positions. They figured start at the top and hedge down. It had to be pretty odd for a low level employee to see all of the suits being escorted out by the new CEO and know that ALL management just left the building.

MY roommate who is a corrections officer said that they are cutting 3500 Jobs across the state. So its either over crowding of prisons or some serious governor pardoning.

I don’t blame them, Fisher-Price employs a bunch of slack offs. Cut the fat, they should have done it a long time ago.

No shit, watch out…

my father was laid off. 30+ years.

Some of these comments are pure garbage.

I wonder how many employees that were laid off are going to Ebay their Elmo Live’s they got discounted now.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully he finds something quick. What did he do there?

was it just ramdom or a dept that got cut?

Sucks dude.
My father went through the same thing in the 80s when they shut down the local plants and shipped the jobs to Mexico, etc.
He was there for 20 years.
All the of the local plants reported to my father, without local plants they no longer needed him.
But it all worked out for the better for my father, eventually.

I did survive.

Mattel was the company that initiated the layoffs, and since FP is owned by them we were focred to oblige. Many factors went into their decision to make these cuts, and over 1000 employees all over the world were affected, and at all levels of the totem pole. The bummer of it all is that FP has been very productive and profitable, but since we are under the Mattel umbrella those numbers don’t mean all that much to job security here in a time like this.

It was definitely a gloomy day, and I saw many close friends lose their jobs. However, not all was so bad. Several of those who lost their positions were very close to retirement and were offered up packages that left them with a nice smile on their face. Some who were let go were young and not really climbing any ladders and in the long run will be thankful that this happened and that they have a severance package to hold them over for a while. Some let go were perhaps coasting along a little too much. I will say this though, overall FP handled the situation quite well. This isn’t to say there weren’t those cuts that have people wondering why, but at least all involved were offered severance packages of some sort.

I was out until 2am with several of those who were let go…their moods were positiveas there was a sense of relief that they have a freedom to do whatever they want with their life now. I’m almost jealous actually…it’s wierd.

^shit I forgot you worked there.

That must have been an interesting night out. I’m sure that most of those people will be able to make something out of this situation though. Like you said, it could be the best thing that ever happened to them.

lol good you made it… it is sad that FP was doing well but they still had to do what they were told…

see ya tonight

I’m glad they were offered the packages.

Sucks

Glad to hear it buddy. Larry, Robb - those guys okay?

Bump. The rumors have been flying.(again)
