70 layoff's at fisherprice in EA

I hope its no one on here or anyone’s family.

It is going to be a blow for EA.

I know a bunch of people that work there :frowning: sucks to hear

here come more ea scammerz

Uggghhh… I hate hearing news like this especially because it seems daily now.

Hope my buddy up there isn’t affected. That sucks.

That’s kiddie stuff. My employer is down over 1500 people in the last year. Yay for the auto industry.

layoffs

I know a couple of people that work there. They both made it throught the day with their jobs. The way it went down was BS too. They pulled people out of their office/cubes one by one and booted them right there. So everyone had to sit there all day and wonder if they were next. People asked to leave will have to come back after hours and can get their stuff under personal watch of security.

Way to handle it with class Mattel!

^How should they have handled it?
You can’t just get on the PA system and start calling names.

I don’t know why they had a lay off but…
They do have Independent Health and the rates just sky rocketed again (like they do every year).

I know very high up people lost their jobs today.

“We had our best year last year. … However, we’re not immune to the unbelievable, unprecedented rise in the cost of manufacturing…”

Like I said before China is getting expensive.

Gobama!

in all seriousness. Its just a lull in the economy. They will be back working in a year or so.

Don’t bet on it.

what would you suggest they do? they did that for security reasons.

oh, and i heard a v.p. lost his or her job so it wasn’t just low level people either.

Perhaps e-mailed the people who were being let go. They could have held a meeting near the end of the day and given some kind of briefing or inference to what was going on. At that point told them their positions were terminated, appologized and asked them to leave.

I don’t claim to be an HR contact, but I’m sure there was a better way then what they did.

you wanna get fired over email? vs face to face?

also, some ppl just snap, hence the reason why they have to come back under security scrutiny. who knows what kind of shit they’ll steal or sabotage if they have all day to sit in the office and let the firing eat away at them

not a bad idea, but you know how a workplace is, word gets around. then people start freaking out about this meeting they have at the end of the day and who else is going blah blah blah. there is no real good way to do this, i certainly don’t have any better ideas. i’m just saying, no matter how it is executed, it sucks. i think they did what they thought was best for the company and its employees.

(in case you are wondering, i don’t work there)

They jsut had security grab people, told them to get their bag and escorted them out. So there wasn’t even an “official” firing. If an e-mail was sent it didn’t have to say, “hey come to the conference room so we can fire you”

That’s understandable.

They have known for weeks a layoff was going to happen, and since Monday that this Thursday would be the day. It’s not like Mattel woke up this morning and threw a dart at EA and said fuck them.

The main reason they do it like that is because people can actually sue the company if they think the company made them look bad or embarrassed them infront of coworkers.

When a person gets fired they are immediately escorted off the property so that they do not have the chance to do something vengeful. That’s the only prudent way to do it. Firing sucks. There is no nice way to do it.

On that same note, the employer is somewhat responsible for the other employees safety/security.

I heard the vice-president of a local prax-air plant was laid off last week.

I guess it makes more sense to lay-off one high paid guy, rather than a few lower workers.
