80 car pileup on the 401

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/01/25/toornto-oshawa-pileup.html?cmp=rss

How do that many ppl get involved… really now…

All has to do with lack of winter tires. I can’t fuckin stand people that don’t have them. Then I get stuck behind the cheap ass fuck. So in the end their cheap ass is wasting my life away cause they’re fuckin cheap.

Funniest is people with BMWs and Benzs and they have their low pros on in the snow. They obviously spent their last dime to be able to get the damn car and can’t even afford snows.

End rant.

^ worst is when people with bimmers and benz’s put winters on the back and leave all-seasons up front, like the PO of mine.
So i switched the winters up front and all seasons in the back. All you need is braking and turning. who needs traction AMIRITE? JDM4lyfe.

Bad drivers.

I nagged years ago about the same shit. It’s not SPEED that’s dangerous, it’s incompetent drivers that don’t know how to react, poor reactions, don’t pay attention, don’t know their limits or their car’s limits, don’t check blind spots, don’t constantly check around them, don’t check into the distance or pay attention to details. Etc…

My front winter tires are BALD, yet i still manage to drive 120-140 all the way home (I drive long distances go cry me a river), change lanes despite the lined areas being piled with snow. When the tires were brand new it felt almost like driving in the dry… a good set of winter tires makes a HUGE difference… but still the REAL problem the REAL key to snow driving is to know when to give gas and when not to, drive in higher gear as there’s so much slippage, know the limit of your car, brakes, counter steer when car starts pulling the wrong way, not freeze and panic or freak out. I take it for granted, but obviously most people would just panic if the car ‘doesnt’ act how they’re used to.

Why? Because they are not exposed to ‘unusual’ situations, they don’t know their own car’s limits, they don’t know their limits as most ppl drive like zombies with cruise control anyway.

Canada needs:

1) Better built roads (not pot ridden cracked crap – role model: europe & middle-east… japan… ANYWHERE but north america) ALSO PROPERLY cambered roads, frickin… most roads are so UNEVEN and NOT STRAIGHT… and the roads that curve have OPPOSING CAMBER WTH!!! In europe most roads are designed with PROPER camber so when ur corner it KEEPS u in, in canada the roads are OPPOSINGLY cambered so it THROWS you OUT… terrible!

2) No trucks on highway, seperate highway for trucks like in parts of europe. Half the traffic jams during certain times of the day is cause of stupid trucks, with stupid car drivers freaking out, braking, then u get the harmonica effect and BAM ur stuck… can’t see and ppl slow donw too… plus they ruin our shitty roads to be even more shitty

3) More intensive, longer, professional driver training (stunts included just like norway). In other words FORCE drivers to experience ice, snow, gravel, skidding, drifting, understeer, oversteer and TEACH THEM how to respond properly. ALSO panic training… so many women, old people, etc… freak ME out… for the way they drive or react… So many people will just SLAM on brakes and wana close their eyes??? What is this?? Panic training is a BIG ONE in canada that would need to be implemented. Some form of autocross training, road racing basics… so people can FEEL the car and road and understand the dynamics that happen… so that in the REAL WORLD they can react properly and be confident!

-more expensive yes I hate stingy greedy government ripping us off BUT if combined with the ABOVE… (like in europe, germany, holland, norway). People should be failed and failed and denied until they are perfect at checking blind spots, looking out into the distance for details, reactions tested, panic factor tested (I would NEVER allow someone behind a steering wheel with this problem NEVER until they are trained to be totally stone cold calm and only respond in the desired manner with the vehicle rather than shock of mind/body)

4) Higher speed limits (my wishful thinking role model: Germany)

5) Retesting of licenses just to make sure people are up to standard. FACT: Most immigrants like chinese and indian use CHEAT books to pass and memorize answers then get their own home country immigrants to favour their tests in driver tests. Then either they don’t know shit or they bring their back home bad driving habbits which are kill or be killed, changing lanes on the go without blind spots checking, without signals, etc…

I’m sure I had more things I nagged about years ago. No none of it will be implemented, higher gas prices, shittier roads that break down even more often with never ending expanding construction and higher speeding tickets and other bs tickets will probably be implemented in the near future.

Welcome to Canada, I gave up complaining but felt like ranting… I mind my own business now a days as I realize I can’t change anything and keep my cool and just wait till I get home from work patiently enough (driving a total of 150 kilometers on average every day can be a nightmare in GTA traffic).

Bleh

Edit:

Chinese drivers suck! Almost all of the guys who almost killed me on the highway by changing without signals or not looking at blind spots or who I witnessed ALMOST hitting someone else but I horned/flashed warned them from that were Chinese. Big conspiracy, but my wife is the witness, every time she was in my car it was always a Chinese person who almost smashed into us *()@# Hundreds of frickin times already. I’m not racist… but Chinese DO generally all suck at driving unless they do like track days or something but that’s cause those guys are car enthusiasts.

And for op story, definetely #1 bad drivers #2 shitty rotten dried out heat cycled piece of shit walmart/canadian tire/sears brand ‘all season tires’

Studded winter tires should be allowed in ontario and mandatory.

/end rant

Winter tires have nothing to do with it. If you have a good set of all season on you are golden. Its called keep a safe distance, and drive according to the road conditions!! I don’t know why people think winter tires will save the day! I bet you most of the people in that pile up have winters on. Just drive proper and all will be fine.

I drive a truck… For the most part truck don’t cause all this. It’s cars that refuse to get trucks in to keep pace with the flow of traffic. So then cars have to dodge slow moving truck because car drivers are assholes. Its not fun trying to get 60+ thousand pounds moving at highway pace again. Trucks would love a by-pass but government won’t build one because it is not cost efficient.

I Donno if I agree with that, I drove a car and truck with winters and a car with good seasonals and winters are 100x better

And with the truck thing I agree, truckers have to be assholes cuz the retards driving the cars beside them don’t realize the space they need, shitty acceleration , etc etc etc

it has something to do with retarded idiots who followed too close and that 1 idiot is capable of causing the 100 car pile up.

ps: about that benz with all season… with the traction control on benz and bmw… you can drive in a snow storm with a all season tire (even if its down to the wear bar)

on top of that sorry for the night scream but half of truckers are brain less retard too.
like an idiot who tried to push me off my lane cause he had his ipod on his ear cant hear me honking like im on fire.(on weston rd), idiot who drives 1 foot over to my lane on high way, etc etc.

hauling 60000 pound is not a excuse for that… i hauled a school bus with my 3500 gmc yesterday in a snow storm. its eazy as fuck as long as you signal where you wanna go, and keep a safe distance for braking :D.

what the hell is traction control?

Sorry it’s ESP on German cars lol

It’s people sucking at driving and not knowing that the far left lane is a passing/higher speed lane. And not knowing how to react when certain situations arise

$0.02

Jeremy Clarkson said something along the lines of - if your not interested in something, you will never take the time to be good at it. At least 90% of people arn’t interested in cars, so they will never take the time to be good drivers.

And never blame the truck drivers. If you haven’t lived in there shoes then you have no idea what it’s like. 99% of all accidents involving a transport truck are caused by a car or pickup doing something stupid. And limiting the trucks to 110 was the dumbest thing the government could have done… Now they can’t keep up with traffic and get shit on int he states where the speed limit is 85 mph and they can only do like 65.

Trucks are limited to 105, that means you can’t even keep momentum going into a hill. Try having a 125000lb vehicle and you can’t even keep up with the traffic around you on flat ground, it sucks. The biggest problem in this country is lack of driver training. It doesn’t matter If it’s a car or tractor trailer, you still need to be taught how to handle it and in Canada that just doesn’t happen.

YO if you cheap ‘wanna be baller fucks tards’ are buying bmws and MB’s and not putting winter tires on them. Or only putting them on the front. you fail. you are not a baller or a shot caller.

if its a snow storm
and you are one of the STUPID FUCKS out there with all seasons… please go park your car.

Put 4 winter tires on that have tread and get the fuck out of my way … no one wants to wait for your dumb ass to get momentum… get a car you can afford or get winter tires.

I blame it all on cheap fucks and women.

Oh and lets not forget the mentality of 4x4 AWD owners & how they think they dont need winter tires … They get traction but cant stop…

I always get the top of the line winter tire… Just to avoid bulshit… I’ve never had to say I can’t go outside due to the storm…

Lmao @ Shot caller.

The problem is the people that can’t drive in the first place think they don’t need snow tires. Then they’re the ones that get stuck, so when the ask for me to help them I say no, I’m not wasting my time cause youre cheap. I actually look at the people that are in the ditch and they are 100% always without winter tires.

What bugs me the most is people saying I don’t want to spend the money on it. I always ask them, would you buy new tires if you all seasons were bald? And they answer yes. Because the thing is if you’re gunna buy tires anyway, guess what? You’re all seasons don’t get worn out if they aren’t on your car meaning they will last twice as long, and what’s the down side you know you have total control in the snow?

To the guy that said you can drive with bald all seasons. I used to think the same way, until I put on a brand new set of Blizzaks. I guarantee you 100% you could never do the things I do or even come close to keeping up with me. I’m the guy passing on the shoulder going 140 in a blizzard.

Like!

Some snow ahead, better hammer the brakes. Not stopping? uh oh, better grind my teeth. fly sized bump. ZOMG I ALMOST DIED, BETTER GET OUT OF THE CAR AND PRAY TO MY PERSONAL GOD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, CALL THE FUCKING SWAT TEAM, NATIONAL DEFENSE…

^ this. IMO, the reason there’s so much drama on the road right now is the range of skill between drivers, people not knowing simple as f*ck rules (person on right has right of way, slow traffic to the right lane…)… I mean, fine, dumb people exist, you can’t change that, but they should at least know the rules of the road.

hold up here im not saying truckers doing 65mph is a problem…
i just dont understand/ hate the fuckers who drives a monster 18 wheeler driving 1 foot over my lane(with out any over size load that requires a red flag), or the idiots who swerve into my lane when i’m right beside them on qew(on fast lane).

funny thing is imo i have way less control over steering or braking then a rig with a full load when i have a extended yukon or big ass h2 on back of my 3500, but i dont seems to drive into someone else s lane or try my best to push someone over to a wall… but i do run into atleast 3~4 truckers who does that while i drive 400km/day in my city.

chyeaaa

this, i’m barely ever on 4 lane roads (living in boonies) and it still grinds my gears. my next truck is getting a push bar!

I think bad drivers really. I drive on summer tires low pro in my 240 and i get through the winter with the best of them How you ask? Two things… One I only drive the car short distances on low speed local roads in the winter so i never get stuck far from home. I am also aware of the limits of a 240 in the winter and when it snows i don’t drive like a moron. 2 I check the weather forecast if i know there will be a lot of snow I leave the damn thing in the garage. 2 winters 0 accidents 0 close calls.

that said i was doing 90 on the 401 that same night with my 4X4 dodge truck with Solid tires and drove by many drivers that had just had fresh accidents. and the road was so bad my rear came out. Yes I did a very slight drift in my pickup at 90K on the 101 with traffic. Just kept cool and eased out of the drift and done. My pickup is not a light ass by the way like most of them. heavy truck front and back. So even 90k with a good vehicle on the 401 was about the limit of that road.
