I have a 89 Chevy K2500. I got the truck after it sat for more than 10 years. After spraying fuel in the bore of the throttle body the truck starts right up. I have replaced the fuel tank, sending unit and pump, ran brand new fuel lines and filter, cleaned the throttle body and replaced the injectors. They spray fuel but it drips and seems as if they are dirty. I have tried 3 different fuel pressure diaphrams with no luck. It still starts up when given fuel in the throttle body but will not start on the amount spraying from the injectors. They are dripping like an eyed dropper rather than spraying a cone. I have also replaced the distributor with a new unit, changed oil, plugs and wires, and put a new coolant tempature sensor in. I have checked the fuel pressure. With the key on it is 14 pounds then declines slowly. Upon cranking it jumps back to 14 pounds. I also tried disconnecting the TPS to make sure it wasn’t telling the ECM it was flooded. The injector harnesses are only reading 1 to 2 volts when cranking the motor. I am stumped. Any ideas?
Any ideas? Anyone?
Are there any fuel filters inside the TB. I would remove the TB and break it down. Make sure there is not any corrosion inside the fuel passages.
check the oil sending unit as if it dont show the proper oil pressure it wont let the fuel pump kick
I cleaned and rebuilt the throttle body already. The fuel pump works fine and sends 14 pounds of pressure. The truck requires 13. I checked the injectors and both harnesses have 12 volts of power. They drip fuel instead of spraying it like a fan. I thought they had no power but they do. Both injectors are brand new as well. I took the top section of the TB apart and reseated the injectors and they sprayed a fan for a second then went back to dripping. This truck is driving me nuts…
what kind of fuel pressure does it have while running after you get it started? If you have tryed playing with the regulator a couple times and it still isn’t working I would start there.
14psi is plenty. sounds like your fuel system is fine. have you checked for spark? ignition module in the distributor?
That truck sucks, I saw the hood open the other day on the way to Jons. DUMPY.
I saw it in the driveway yesterday.
Did you check what John said?
have u tried wiglin the wires on the injectors while its runnin ? as the wires tend to break at the inj causin a power drop . orrrrr ya can p/m me and over the weekend ill pull the t/b off of the one i have sittin at my garage and charge ya accordingly for it ?
Lol not everyone can afford a brand new truck Wayne.
The truck does not run. So I cant figure out any of your questions about it running. The oil pump sending unit is fine because the pump works perfect and pushes pressure. The pick up coil and ignition module are brand new as is the distributor. Its down to either the new injectors I got being bad or the throttle body itself. I’m going to refund and replace the injectors tonight and have a different throttle body to try at my friends shop if that doesn’t work.
Once I get it running I have 5 extra rims to sandblast and paint. Then some 31 10.5s and fender flares. Next summer I want to coat the bed with Line-x or similar. So it wont be so dumpy Wayne. Its actualy super clean. Theres no rot anywhere underneath it and the interiors real clean. Should be nice soon.
i had a shit ton of jack last night and felt like breaking balls :rofl :rofl :rofl
AND I DIDN’T BUY A BRAND NEW TRUCK EITHER!!!
Ok well I have some new info/problems. I replaced the throttle body with a different one today. The injectors are now spraying fuel with a good cone shape. But the truck wont stay running. It starts and runs for 5 to 10 seconds then shuts off. It is starving for fuel. If I take a spray bottle and then feed it gas it will run. The tank, pump, sending unit, and injectors are new. Could the oil pump sending unit cause this? I tried unplugging the throttle position sensor and the engine coolant sensor with no difference. Any ideas?
check the oil sending unit , what is oil pressure while its runnin ? also check the relay could be fallin off . orrr try a ign module its under the dist cap on these , its rare to go but still a possibility . are ya losin spark also or havent looked
The spark is good. I will check the sending unit. The ignition module and the whole distributor is brand new.
Well i got it figured out. The person who was working on it before me had the fuel lines backwards. The inlet had to push past the regulator to get any fuel to the injectors. Thing runs like a champ now. Should be on the road soon. I dont think anyone could have guessed that one. Thanks for the help guys. :hug
unreal.
