Okay, so I am looking for projectors to retrofit into my current projector housings. Thing is I am looking for projectors that have a base for 9006 HID bulbs. The projector lens I currently have is based for a H1/H2 setup. Anyone know of any OEM (ex: Benz, BMW, VW, etc.) that has this base or any aftermarket supplier with them (ex: valeo, hella, etc.).
This would be much appreciated.
2g eclipse. Unfortunatley I found out that the aftermarket projectors made for the car use a H1/H2 instead of a the stock 9006/9005 setup. But the 9006/9005 is the one I want to retrofit in.
I have a HID kit based for the 9006 which are the stock lowbeams for an 2g eclipse. I know its not ideal but I want to retrofit better quality projects that can fit that base into the housings. Anyone know of any with that base???
First, most 9006 kits are inferior quality to OEM Hella ballasts.
Second, if you are going to go through the trouble of retrofitting projectors you should put in a D2S BiXenon projector set and you will have both HID low beams and HID high beams.
Third, Halogen projectors are not designed for a HID bulb and using HID projectors designed for a HID buld will provive better performance.
If you want to go through all that work to do a swap do it right instead of half assing it just because you have a set of ballast lying around. Ebay the ballasts you have and get a 3rd Gen Hella Ballast set.
On a side note.
Once you have HID lows, halogen high beams are almost worthless.
Not too familiar with the BiXenon and how they work. Ones I’ve seen online I think were only a pair of projectors, how does it accomadate hi and low beams?
That’s what I was going for. That’s why I wanted to swap in a set of HID projectors into my current headlight housing.
I appreciate your help, but don’t appreciate the “half assing” comment. The reason I asked is because I DON’T want to half ass it. In all seriousness though I do appreciate the opinions and help.
If you look at your projectors (any, Halogen or HID) you will see a metal shield/shroud inside the projector between the reflector and the lens. This blocks the upper part of the bean and provides the nice flat cutoff in the beam pattern.
In a Halogen and standard HID projector this cutoff shield is fixed. In a BiXenon projector this shield has 2 parts and is hinged on one side. The cutoff shield moves kind of like a eyelid. When it moves down it unshrouds more of the beam, raising the cutoff higher… and there is you HIGH beam.
The shield is moved by a little solenoid attached to the projector.
All you have to do to make these work is hook up your high beam wires to the solenoid wires and bulb. Most cars extinguish the low beams when you turn on the high. In this case your high and low is the same bulb so you need to keep it lit no matter which setting you want.
The lows hook up to the HID bulb as usual.
Trust me, that if you would like to swap projectors get Bixenons. You can also get E-code, eurospec projectors which produce more of a blue/purple halo… thats the real way to get that color… not with colored bulbs.
I just happen to have a set of Bixenon E-codes out of a AMG Mercedes but they are mine mine mine. :eekdance:
Yeah, my girl has a 07 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Black Edition and I LOVE her HIDs and cutoffs. They are actually aimed pretty low but they look really sweet. I told her I might swap our headlights in the middle of the night. haha.
Well I mean, just looking on ebay I found e46 bixenon projectors, bulbs, ballasts for $353. Honestly don’t know what I should be spending on these. Also is there anyone around/near Rochester that would be willing to help me put these in when I get them??? Thanks.
Edit: Can I use my HID kit if it is a TRUE HID kit along with another set of projectors (single or bixenon)???
Only if the ballasts have D2S connectors on the end… NOT 9006. I would highly recommend you do not buy any adapters or pigtails or bullshit. Just get the correct pieces from the start. You save $20 and buy $100 in headaches.
A pair or BiXenon projectors runs $150 - $180
Ballasts are about $100 each
my projectors i have are abouslty perfect for hid retro fits and one of the most popular hid projectors used. it has a nice cut off and with the clear lens it will give nice color
Hmm. I could not find deals like that. Is ebay the only place to get these or should I look on a BMW/Benz forum site?? Like I said I’m totally new to these HID projects which I think alot of people are. Like I said the more help the better. I’ll check around but if u see any deals let me know cuz I could def do 280 for a “CORRECT” pair of HIDs. Thanks guys
a 100 each meaning they are about 200+ hids alone. for you being a beginer and im sure wnat something that will look really good. buy my projectors. they are very popular projector for retro fitting and with a little color mod have an amazing look to them. heres some pictures of them sightly color modded
