94 mitsubishi diamante overheating

so here is the scoop. my friend calls me and said that her car died and there is no power. I arrive at her house to check it out. battery doesn’t have enough power to start the car. I put a charger on it and a hour later it had a tough time cranking but eventually started and seemed to idle fine. I check battery voltage and it has 15.4 volts. I thought that was a bit high but after about 5 min of idling it dropped to 13.5. There was a prety good whiring noise coming from the alt area so I though maybe it is on its way out. The noise ended up being a nearby idler pulley. I reassembled the car and tightened the belt. Now I am thinking the belt just got wet driving in the slush this morning and started slipping and allowed the car to die. So I again start the car and let it run will everything turned on to load the electrical system. after about 10 min of it running she told me that the heat was blowing cold this morning. So by this time the cooling fan had just came on and I check the temp and it is a bit high. So I check the coolant and of course it is low. It took about half a gallon of coolant. Start the car back up and it is still overheating. I was having a hell of a time trying to get the air out of the cooling system but after about half a hour of messing with it I think I got nearly all of it out. When the car is running the cooling hoses do not heat up, nor does the radiator. The radiator is really corroded but I can’t imagine it being completely clogged to the extent of passing NO coolant at all. I do not know where the water pump is on this engine but I was thinking the water pump is not moving fluid.

are there any common cooling system problems on the V6 DOHC.

Is there a bleeder somewhere on the engine to get the air out of the cooling system.

i’m stumped.

The problem in this case has to be driver error. And without looking at it, i have nothing of value to add except DYNOOMIITTEE

thermostat?

try thermostat, coolant temp sensor, bleed the coolant system
depending on how low the coolant was, it may need more coolant…

it may be the waterpump if it’s not those other things, perhaps it is the fault of the radiator, but the coolant should still be in the hoses

had the same exact problem with my car, it was either the temp sensor or the tstat, i replaced both and bled the coolant system
luckily it wasnt the waterpump

the temp sensor is not faulty here. the fan comes on low then a couple min later it changes to high. I would love to bleed the system but I have not come across a bleeder valve. I have seen a few cars that had them near the Tstat but this one does not as far as I can tell. I will pull the Tstat tomorrow and see what it looks like.

leak down buddy

u could try to do it with just the radiator cap off

^^^ and let the car sit, the air will make its way up out the cap hole eventually
