There is one FS around here with 154k on it adn it is beautifull adn only 4700 bucks. How dependable is the chrysler/dodge 5.9’s?
dependable, sure. I never had any problems with my grand, even wheeling the piss out of it… and the 5.9 has basicly all the same stuff as a 5.2 which mine was.
you may not like the 8mpg though…
5.9s are rare. They were really fast for an SUV in 98. Obviously the SRT8s of today blow it away, but it’s still a really nice rig.
I haven’t heard of any major problems with them. Good luck.
Ya,the gas milage might suck but i get anywhere from 10-14 MPG’S in my GTP right now
The usual GC gremlins apply to the 5.9 LTD. Check for viscous cplg failure, thats pretty common and expensive to repair. Crank the wheel and if you get tire scrub, knock $800 bucks off the price. Check for electrical gremlins, especially lighting and wipers. Trannys are a weak spot, but by 154K it has to have been replaced at least once. Also rear diiffs can be a weak spot, but usually will howl like a banshee so you will know right away if thats a problem. Oterwise, like Gearhead said, it’s a basic 360 Chrysler engine, pretty much bulletproof. They ARE pigs though…10-14 average. My brother had one a few years back and with a chip, intake and exhaust ran 14.4’s with it.
Ya, all jeeps are prone for rear dif failure. And i love those jeeps so much n it is a greeat deal but i don’t know if i could sell my GTP for a 4x4 jeep, the guy is calling me back later on for shits n giggles. I get the sam MPG as they do so that is no different, and as u said shit is expensive for those n hard to find. I will ask him about the tranny and so fourth as well. FYI,It is gunmetal gray outside n dark gray leather int:naughty:
Sounds like it may be the same color as mine. Platinum. I would offer 4K, who knows he may take it.
This is my 98
Actually i think it is the same exact as this man.
my roomate had one ran 14.8 in the quarter witha flomaster pewter color rean great but started to blow the front diff and would cost alot of money to repair ! but overall a good motor/comfort vehicle expensive to fix though
viscous coupler problems are one thing i forgot about… but remember my personal fix:
That color is Deep Slate Pearlcoat…really sharp color IMO.
Gearhead, your VC fix is a lot less than 800 bucks!! :bowrofl: :bowrofl:
best color of all the jeeps IMO.
I like that fix.
