SO my brother and I got pretty far with the install and came to a fork in the road. With everything almost apart it looks like the tranny wont lower unless you drop the sub frame. We havent read this anywhere but the dealer says you have to drop the subframe.
2 questions…(1)Has anyone done a clutch on a 98-02 accord and kept the sub frame in place? (2) Can you remove the tranny to get to the clutch by just removing the passenger axle?
It is just a clutch… Can you move the transmission back at all or just lift the motor a bit to create a workable gap? you only need a few inches to get the old one out and the new one in.
what about lifting the motor a bit so that it creates separation? I only ask because I have used this method in the past on a car that was nearly impossible to get the clutch out of.
You don’t remove subframe, you just loosen it, remove passenger side subframe bolts and loosen drive side enough for it to drop down about 4-5 inches this will allow engine to drop down and u can pull tranny away from engine thru passenger wheel-well. Hope this helps.
99_civic_si helped me with my GSR clutch years ago on our backs on pavement. But with tegs/civic its pretty “easy”. Im not saying this accord is impossible, but its a lot more work then I was thinking. I found a step by step for these accord years (wish I had it last week) and Ill post it later for those interested.
