About the Pens moving.....

well it’s not rocket science here either. I see this goin back to darkstars retarded post about the rush to the gas pumps didn’t increase demand

whether or not people think the pirates deserved a stadium or not is a moot point because its here and i’m fuckin typing this from inside it right now.

they did deserve it. they have more people come every and hold events. they also got the all star game

ur right its not rocket science, i knew this shit before i worked here, but expeicence in it defiently would open anyones eyes even more to the realities of the business called pro sports.

Is a new stadium going to make the Penguins not suck?

Fuck them, Fuck Lemiuex, Fuck Hockey, and Fuck Canada…

nope and a new stadium didn’t make steeler fans no white trash so what’s your point?

shouldn’t you be at fagboys in c-ville

does jesus approve of your hostility?

Steeler fans > you

sorry but how the game was on sunday is how it should be. fuck pamperd players. play in the mud and snow and wet field. who cares if the grass is like that. its football!!! its meant to be on grass not turf

they need a new arena. not just for the pens but for all the other things that go on there. if they dont build a new arena then the city is just fucked up.

What are some positives that can come out of them building a new arena? Right now the arena is used for the occasional basketball game, concerts, public speaking event, Wrestling, Globetrotters, Circus, and hockey. Thats all i can think of off the top of my head. So really out of those events Hockey is the only one that really brings people and money to the arena. Ok so what happens when unstable hockey takes another year off? We have at best maybe 20 events from the list i stated previously. ewww, kind of sketchy. Personally I would not invest a dime into a new stadium. Just does not make sense to spend millions of dollars for a place to hold a range of 20 - 100 events with the maximum capacity being 17,000 people.

just a useless stat that i ran in my head, but it would take 30 sell out pens games to equal a season of steeler game attendance. and i am sure the income of the one season of the steelers is way more profitable for the city.

i do believe they used to have the college Bball games there

whats the saying. if you build it they will come

also with that poor choice of union crap. thats total BS!!!

also use the arena for monster trucks alot of things they could use it for if they market it right

if they build a new stadium they will need a 20k seats. Hockey won’t take another season off because of the simple fact that the new contract is ok’d with the union.

also build one big enough for a supercross event and we will get one for sure.

so it takes 30 sold out games for them to equal that of 8 games for the steelers? I doubt that.

PS- all 16 so far have been sold out.

college bball is not played there, pitt has there own stadiums, soo does duqense, and other local colleges…

and whitey i think also they have motocross stuff there along with monster turck stuff…im not sure but i think those have been there too(dont take these post as being a dick just saying what i belive is there)

Events at Mellon benefit the city in terms of dollars per event much more than 8-10 steeler games a year at Heinz Field. Sure it’s only 16-17,000 an event compared to 60,000 +/- but there are what 40+ pens games this year? The other businesses in Pittsburgh such as restaurants/bars can only take in so many customers on a given day + steeler games are known for tailgatng whereas Pens games are not. Pittsburgh establishments and therefore the city in terms of taxes as well as parking benefits much more from those 40+ events. Where the city screwed up was with the damn convention center, a facility combining an arena type venue and convention center type facilitites would have been big.

yeah i knew there was a few one or two time events that were there. If they can put more events in the stadium and bring more money in I am all for it! I just don’t think its a wise decisiong to spend sooo much money when the stadium just sits there not being used.

i really wish you would use your head before typing.

64,450 * 8 = 515,600
17,000 * 30 = 510,000

lets see how much money that brings in now. I believe the average is still around 110 per ticket at the game.

515,600 * 110 = 56,716,000

wow, thats a big number. I believe the pens average ticket price is 50. Lets see how many pens attendees would be needed to match the amount of money generated by the steelers for a season.

56,716,000 / 50 = 1,134,320

wow thats a shitload of people that need to attend pens games just to = the money generated. Lets see how many games it would take for the pens with sell out games to match that.

1,134,320 / 17,000 = 66.72

Almost 67 sell out games would = 8 of the steeler games. figure we get a few playoff games in each season and the steelers mage more gross money in ticket sales then the pens do.

math is fun

freeze the river & play on it like it should be played!

i see your point here. How many attendees of a pens game come from out of town? Lets say 10% of the crowed at a steelers game is from out of town. Most likely they are going to come for the weekend to attend a game in our fair city. lets say they stay at a hotel that is a reasonable cost of 100 dollars per night. They have a two night stay and they eat approximately 5 meals during their stay as well. So in theory the average person could spend approximately 200 dollars in accomodations and 100 on meals. lets say during their time they do not want to sit in their room the whole time and they go out and see the sites. will give them a meager budget of 50 dollars in random expenses. and then of course they have the 20 dollar charge on sunday for parking!

lets add this up

200 + 100 + 50 + 20 = 370

370 bucks could essentially be spent by one person attending a football game. multiply that by 10% of the attendance of the event

370 * 6445 = 2,384,650

thats quite a chunk of change to be dropped off in our fair city on one weekend. Not saying all my numbers are correct, but I think from me attending games in other citys they are a fair estimate

actually the majority of the places to park now are 25, not that 5 bucks makes a big deal though

if they leave it will be another sad day in pittsburgh… and badger bob will roll over in his grave

i was being nice… I think some spots are even 40!

I am not against the stadium, but the whole thing is straight business. No one wants to sponsor the stadium and drop dough since in its current form its not exactly a huge money maker.

This thread sucks!!!..I love the pens and think we should keep them here, that arena is so beat it is a joke for the city. If Pittsburgh wants to get back up to pace of drawing in people to live and work here they have to have nice facilities. Imajine what visiting people think when they see an event in the Arena, that place is a shithole.
