? about virtual memory ( need help comp gurus)

ok on my computer i put in around 756mb of ram,
now my computer is saying that the virtual memory is very very low.

and my computer is running slower then shit…
in the glossary it says virtual memory is a system from which programs that use more memory then what i have are stored into paging files of some sort…
i have 756mb of ram and i think thats alot of damn ram, so what the hell computer gurus? should i buy more memory?? or what else is there i can do?

if anything you have 768.

right click my comp. properties

then advanced then performance settings tab

then advanced then virtual memory

what are your settings?

when are you getting the error? has it happened more than once? do you run too much shit? are you running p2p software when it errors out?

its set to :let windows choose whats best for my computer:
and everything is checked in the boxes below that…

now im getting low disk space warnings on my c: drive, c drive is the main drive, d drive is for my other hard disk…
i have 0 games on my c drive and mainly whats on my c drive is basic things i need on the computer…
i dont know what else to do to free up space besides disk cleanup and disk defragmenter

yes i have 768mb also

i switched it to “for best performance” so now all the boxes are unchecked.
im going to see how it runs like this ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh nevermind it fuckin looks like windows 3.1, im gonna tweak some things here

rofl if you totally fuck up your paging file.

but yeah, OS shouldn’t take up much more than 800 meg… so unless you have a 1 gig hard drive… clean off your c drive.

to me it sounds like you run some file sharing program like kazaa and still have the download directory shared on your c drive and it’s filling up…

you still never said when you’re getting the error and what you’re running

running a 12gig hardrive on c drive, d drive is where all the movies and songs are, and ares is never connected unless i want a song,
also running windows xp home edition with a pentium 4 1.60GHz 1.59GHz 768mb of ram

cleaned off like all of my c drive. there is now 4.77 gigs free, but i am still getting the virtual memory is still low, the computer is running a little bit faster but its not running like it should…
could i get a little more ideas on this?

people at work get a lot of virtual memory errors and 99% of the time it’s either spyware hogging up memory or a virus. Do you have antivirus and some type of spyware removal software?

yup happened to my GF’s computer the other day. it was spyware

getting the error whenever, it’s happened a couple times,
right now what i have running is AIM Yahoo messager dail up connection (duh) and spysweeper…

this virtual memory problem happens every so often, but it seems to me that my computer could be running ALOT faster then it is now…
im getting DSL on jan 20th, so im happy about that, buttttttttt i would really want my computer to run properly before that,

so would anyone that knows what their doing want to come fix up my computer for a case of beer of your choice? I’ll get you a case of beer and i could probably convince my mom to throw in $50 for fixin it also

so let me know

Boot up your system in safe mode and see if it runs any different. If it doesn’t then you def have a spyware issue.

On another note: my virtual memory setting: the initial size is 720 and the max size is 1440. what is your initial and max set for?

its running decent right now…

but im tired of fuckin with it, i used to build computers for a small company when i was 15-17 but i hate software!!

HERE IS THE DEAL! whoever comes to help me out and fix my computer to make it run better will get
1. Case of beer of your choice
2. $50
3. cheap blowjob from my ugly sister

let me know if anyone want sot take the offer

well i would help, but that #3 just doesn’t do it for me

seriously though, do you have a spyware removal software on your PC?

yes i have spy sweeper from webroot, i bought it from a store,

raylene, #3 for you is when i fill in for the girls hehe

but im serious about 1 and 2 for everyone that knows computers on this board!

I know how frustrating this can be, but did you run spy sweeper in safe mode? Good choice on the removal program btw!

if you don’t get the virtual mem error while NOT on teh interweb its simply spyware / shit.

if you do get it while you are NOT online, then it’s something else… mem leak / virus / something wrong.

where do you live?

live in the south hills, castle shannon

ya im pullin my hair out!, no i didnt try it in safe mode, im gonna wait and see if anyone takes my offer first lol

why do u double post so much? theres an EDIT buttom u know! :spank:
