ok abs i hate it i know all of you will just tell me to pull the fuse but i would want to rip the whole unit out. i want advice on this, eather to just pull the fuse or what can i do to take the whole thing out. which will be better? and what problems might come up if i spend time taking the whoel unit out?
I spent an entire winter with a pulled ABS fuse on my old camry learning how to control it (did i mention only 4mm of tread on the shitty all season tires as well?). After i went back to a ABS car, I could actually make better use of it.
I find that the generalization of most people thinking they can control their cars without ABS just because they know how it works and crap are stupid… It’s not about knowing how it works, it’s about your instinct knowing how to react to make use of it. I know that after a winter of no ABS, I can appreciate ABS a lot more and would not recommend removing it…
So Anthony… just pull the fuse and learn on that for a winter then go back to ABS and keep it there.
ABS is only as good as the systems controlling it ( hydraulics/electrics/programming ), early ABS is horrid and to this day companies like Ford can’t make a modulated ABS system to save thier lives… never mind anyone elses. ABS has it’s place but if your driving a car outside the regular OEM levels of performance of that car then the SW and HW involved is not going to be anywhere close to doing it’s job properly.
So, if your driving your 240 and you’ve changed anything from tyre width to brakes Take it out, it’s not going to function as it should, when it should. if you changed the motor or done lightening on the body then take it out as it’s not going to function properly… esp. on early generations of ABS.
My 200SX = No ABS
My 300ZX = ABS
I appreciate ABS more than anything after I felt it come on the first time.
It barely ever comes on because the car barely looses traction when braking but there have been the odd times.
The first time it happened I actually spent a few months thinking that the ABS on my car didn’t work. I was just about to look into it before this happened. I was driving home from work, going eastbound on 16th approaching Yonge. The lights were turning red and the guy in front of me seemed like he was going to go through the amber, so I gassed it to stick as close behind him as possible. Then he changed his mind all of a sudden and started braking really hard so I had to do the same. The road had a small area where water was running over it and it was dry before and after a 2 metre patch. I slammed on the brakes when it was dry and then it went into the wet as I was slowing. ABS went crazy and I felt it pulsating under my feet. In the end, it was a really happy experience. Without the ABS I would’ve been in the back of that other guys car.
Careless driving on my part, but it was worth the experience I guess.
ABS is GOOD.
It shouldn’t affect drifting because getting the wheels to spin is controlled by more power and not brakes… unless you’re a Honda Civic or some stupid car like that. Drifting a car should never usually include the brakes.
Sento: i was talking to the guys at my shop today and they told me that early abs on domestic cars were so assed out. a guy had two accidents because of it and they didnt even try to fix it they just wrote the car off. so yeah i think i will pull the whole unit out when or if i do upgrade the brakes.
