AC on = higher idle? wtf.

Ok, so I still haven’t fixed the “vacuum leak” (and i put it in quotations because i’m not 100% sure what my problem is anymore), and this morning when I was driving to uni my car started acting up.

First my AC wasn’t on… and I noticed that before then, my idle would be 500-600ish and ready to stall out almost every time i brought the car to a stop. It started getting humid in my car and outside was loud and smelly, so I just turned on my AC. I realized right away that the RPM had jumped right up to 1000 and stayed there. I thought to myself “okay…wtf…” So i turned it back off… down to 600… back on… up to 1000… etc. etc., to make sure that the AC was the culprit. Turns out that this happened EVERY time I turned my AC on or off…

I noticed, also, that with the AC on, the engine made a bit of a wheezing noise, and my RPM would randomly rocket up to 1900 (usually around 1500 though)… and then go back down to 1000.

WTF is up with my car? lol.

edit: all this AC on/off business was while the car was at a STOP (ie. red light or stuck in traffic)

idle should be around 1000-1100 with the a/c on…7-800 with the a/c off…whining noise will be ure compressor, which is normal for nissans.

Hmm. Didn’t know that.

Thanks, but do you know anything about the RPM randomly moving up to 1900 and back down?

vacuum leak, bad maf, bad ground, bad IAC valve…one of those will solve it…
