Well guys, here are the pics I told you I was gonna post.
As the title of this post implies, I got into an accident at around 7:50am on the morning of January 3rd, 2007. There were a ton of accidents that morning due to the roads being so icey, and it didn’t make it any better that I had on 3 summer tires, 2 bald tires in the rear and a donut spare in the front.
So much for that. I’ve never had a major accident before with 5+ years of driving so I guess there’s a first for everything.
Good thing is though, I just checked with the measuring tape and the precise structural dimensions of the car. It turns out that the frame is still perfectly straight. Though the pictures make the accident seem a lot worse, the car was going on an angle when it hit the drivers side front wheel. The impact crumpled the lower control arm, broke the tension rod and a few more things.
I’ve just purchased a Japanese Front Clip with a complete Twin Turbo engine and that has the parts that I require to fix all the damages.
Here are the pictures of my car after the accident:
And here are the pictures of the pole and the centre island that I hit.
Oh. By the way, I forgot to ask. Does anyone know where I can buy a drivers side fender and a door for cheap?
I just need the door shell. No internals required. I will be swapping over everything that’s good from the old shell.
Also, I’m looking for a good shop to do the swap. Where I can have the front clip and take a few days to swap it over. Or possibly someone can do all the major physical work for me and I will complete all the wiring/electrical?
In my slightly ‘unconventional’ mindset this moment, I’d suggest you go back with a handsaw, cut that bitch down, and put it up in your garage to remind yourself that good things can come from bad!:A
OHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! that has to suck!! im sorry to hear that man…contact the guys at raceready they might be able to get you some fenders or whatever you need
Hahaha, that’s what I was thinking. When I tell people they always look at me strange when I tell them that the sign shouldn’t be standing anymore.
For how much damage the car experienced I should at least not see the sign for a good 3 weeks before they put up a new one.
BMWWW. I actually kind of wish I could’ve taken it with me. York Region police told me they are going to charge me for the sign though. The less damage, the less the repair bill. They didn’t take a report at the location or anything, but they told me an officer would go out there to take pictures of it and see if they can’t just bend it straight so there would be no cost to me. I figure they’re going to come up with some huge repair bill. My dad thinks they might just let it go. Any way you look at it, if the damage isn’t that great then I have a 50/50 chance of walking away from this. You never know though, the Government gets you when you least expect it. Never know, 6.5 years down the road, right before the statute of limitations they might come to me and say, “Oh yeah, remember that sign??? We want $X0000000.00 Dollars as compensation for the repair”
Blah, I’m rambling
Good news, I bought a 300ZX Twin Turbo front clip for a steal. $2000 taxes included. $80 Shipping.
Can’t wait to get this engine in. MORE POWER!!!
Mild tuning, up the boost and I can have 400hp at the wheels. Throw in a couple blow off valves and I’m laughing. I can’t wait.
wow thats stupid how cud they charge u for the sign wen it was an accident…u lost control …it was slippery…cuz isnt that where our taxes go…to fixing and repairing roads and stuff like that
by the way…are u dealing with either ppl i refered u to?
Ditto… I find it lame that they’re going to add salt to the injury…
On another note, ONLY EIGHTY-DOLLARS FOR SHIPPING!?!?!?!
That is a really wicked rate… even if it is within Canada. (I get billed regularly for $50+ for a small box, under 5lbs… (What shipping company is this! $80 is an unreal shipping price for a full front clip!)
Yes, why are they charging you with the sign? Are you going through insurance? If so, keep the invoice and submit it to your insurance company. I don’t see why they would charge you personally for a sign. The Town’s insurance and yours should be talking.
Maybe that’s what the officer meant by charging you with the sign?
Well Shorteaz. I tried Vuk. Took me two days to get in touch with him and when I finally did, he said to send him an email with all the parts that I needed. So I did that same night and he emailed me back the next night around the same time to tell me that he only had a few things in his posession and he needed to find out what other people from far had for me. I needed the car moving asap so I pretty much made the arrangements while waiting on him. Seems like a great guy and knows a lot about what he has to say regarding this car, but he’s not quick enough right now.
I didn’t get a chance to call the other person.
The government has completely impractical ways to how they justify various things, and we can’t do anything but abide by it because like it or not, they run shit.
hahahaha BMWWW. Like salt to an injury. Your right, they had all the salt for my injury, and no salt for the roads. If they had done the right thing and salted their roads, then I probably wouldn’t be in this position right now.
$80 is good. I was surprised it was so cheap, but I realized that it’s their own in house local shipping. They have a guy that drives a flatbed truck all day and the only reason he got it in my garage is because my dad and I helped him drag it there. No skid, no dolly, one guy that’s physically smaller than me (Height/Width/Build), I have absolutely no idea how he does it every day.
Renman no insurance. I would prefer to pay for this myself if it comes to that. I’m a perfect driver to them for 5+ years. No tickets, no accidents, they were informed that for the past two years I’ve been attending school and getting extremely high grades. It wouldn’t be right for something as stupid as this to mess it up. Insurance companies are another unreasonable aspect of life. In most cases no matter how small the incident, if they have to pay $10 then you have to pay $1000 extra yearly for a few years. Really stupid. Towns insurance won’t cover anything. I mean, it will cover them if someone vandalizes their sign and they don’t know who it is that did it, but since they have a report saying exactly who did it then there is no need to go through insurance. I don’t think they have insurance though. Who would insure a town?
I hear you about paying it yourself and not going through insurance. I would do the same thing.
Regarding the town: Municipalities do have insurance for accidents, but since it was a fixture and not another town vehicle, I suspect you may be right. They may just invoice you, especially if insurance is not involved.
Nope. You’re right. It was somewhat intentional. I didn’t take many pics of the car because I felt disgusted at its appearance. The damage to the car was painful for me to look at.
The pole on the other hand, was to ensure that the government didn’t rip me for the cost of the pole, and/or it wasn’t damaged additionally between the time I hit it, and the time the insurance company quotes me. Each picture has a date stamp. It’s not on the front of the picture but a software datestamp in the embedded content of the picture so there will be no dispute.
That’s right Renman. Town vehicles would have insurance but I don’t think property would.
