“Malik came to the U.S. on what is known as a “fiancé” visa, which allows an American fiancé to petition for his or her partner’s temporary entry before marriage. For the visa application, the address she listed in her Pakistani hometown, ABC News discovered today, does not exist. Malik received a her Green Card this summer, U.S. officials said.”

So next time someone mentions then extensive background checks on refugees or women being harmless.
I can’t tell you how many K-1 holders I come across that are out of status (never got married/expired visa). DOS does their little interview or whatever, and USCIS issues the visa… then, it is NEVER checked up on. hell, just recently i app’d a Syrian male, early 20s with an expired K-1 visa…claimed he and his fiance broke up… seemed like a pretty sketchy dude… there are thousands of people (both men and women) just like him in the US. The thing is, there are soooo many applications for both immigrant and non immigrant… that due diligence really isn’t done… on top of that, we don’t exactly share information with countries who aren’t Visa Waiver countries, so we really have no clue who we’re allowing enter the US, it’s kinda scary to think about.
