I completely understand spending big bucks on equipment if it’s for something you really enjoy. A friend of mine does a bunch of bike races and marathons and last I heard I think he had over $5k in his bike. But he wouldn’t ride that bike to class and try locking it to some shitty university provided bike rack.
Yeah, your lock might be drillproof, cutproof, fireproof and bomb proof but what about the shitty steel rack you’re locking it to?
