I’m investing in the most expensive bicycle i’ve ever purchased here in Hawaii to ride trails. Getting a Felt Q720 mountain bike shipped here soon.

Unfortunately, we have a pretty bad bike theft problem in Honolulu so I would like to take additional measures to ensure my bike stays mine. At night, I’ll be bringing it into my apartment. I’m more worried about when I ride to class and other various places where it will be locked up for hours at a time.

So what locks are the best? What else besides locks
can be used? I.e. Theft recovery devices? Call me paranoyed but it’s really bad here so I want to know my options. Is there such a thing as insurance for bikes?

There is insurance for bicycles, if you’re really worried. Also, I’d recommend not locking it up in any secluded shady spots, registering it with local law enforcement and use a quality lock with a warranty.

Buy a POS bike to ride to class and keep the good one only for trails.

Spending $1k on a hardtail mountain bike just seems silly in general. I bought my trek used for $300 and beat the piss out of it with no complaints.
