On a related note, what age range do you mean adult, because if its like a 50 something adult I would say big body benz, audi or BMW.

30-40, something that is a little large, but yet fun to drive

25-30, something like an A4, 3 series, CLK/C-class, if you want to give the successful aura, if you want the I don’t care what you think I am going to drive what I want to drive because I like it, Sti, Evo, GTO.

I didn’t want to argue with any opinions or rude comments, I honestly wanted to read most people views on the topic. (Plus I don’t get off until 4:30 pm) Dreid is a close friend of mines and yes he loves his rice burning focus with dreams of one day owning a mustang.

OK I guess its time for me to explain my post. Typical college student dealing with post graduation syndrome. Things were different while I attended college; It was a wide variety of motors heads. When I Started working I quickly noticed that my riced out civic stood out in the parking lot. It was time to sell and find a more conventional vehicle (adult like)

This was my list:
350z, M3, IS300, G35 coupe, S2000, GTO, WS6, SS camaro, SVT Cobra, Evo, STI, older NSX, Impala SS, Trailblazer SS, Lightning, Charger SRT8, 3000GT, Typical Acura’s, used Corvette…etc, etc, etc…I am not a big fan of SUV’s or sedans but I would consider Anything sporty.
The only vehicle requirement I had was at least mid 14s quarter mile time and manual transmission. Their were a number of other vehicles on this list but I expect that you get my point. I spent almost a year trying to decide on what vehicle I would buy. After I purchased the vehicle I started looking for supercharger or turbo kit.

My Conclusion (opinion)
Most people don’t see anything wrong with their car, truck or bike regardless of their situation. It’s just time for to buy a second vehicle

I guess the big question is “what do you do”?

Are you in a job where image is real important? Do you constantly have clients, or worse, potential clients in your car? If yes you have to think about something more practical. If no, get what ever car you want or if you like your riced out Civic keep it.

I’m a software engineer, so I can drive pretty much anything I want. There are people who deal with the god damn customers so I don’t have to (/office space). I don’t care what my co-workers think of my car and my boss is more interested in software I turn out than how I get to work. His only concern is that I have something reliable that can get me there everyday.

i guess the best way to determine what car is an “adult” car is to look at the Insurance company ratings. For some reason MY WRX has lower liability ratings than my FORD FOCUS. same model years. same displacement… one’s turbocharged… and the other is slow as ballz. I would consider the wrx more adult than a pos ford.

is your WRX on the road all year long? the rates on my Z28 are low as can be but thats because i have low mileage on it and its a summer cruiser, just curious?

Definitely adult:
Minivans, SUVs, true family sedans (accord, camry, malibu etc).

Adult with spice:
BMW’s & Audis etc. Basically anything with room for 4, a comfortable ride, but above average performance. Something you could pick up an important client in from the airport and not worry about first impressions. My GTO would qualify except for the bright red paint and chrome rims. Little too flashy, which brings me to…

Borderline adult:
STi, Evo, Mustang, Camaro. Sure, you’ve still got room for 4, but the CEO you just picked at the airport may draw some conclusions about you that may or may not be fair.

Definitely not adult: 2 seaters, real high performance cars, anything heavily modded.

But all that goes out the window if you have 2 cars, one reasonable DD and the 2nd car being something extreme. I would never call Laughingas’s t-rex a kid’s car, part because of the price and part because it’s not like it’s his daily driver. It’s an adult’s toy.

EDIT:
Another case of nyspeed being douchenozzles to a noob. It’s in gen auto, it’s a thread that could spawn a decent automotive discussion, but people have to hate. I’d expect this over the winter when we all have our racing blue balls and are full of aggression but everyone should be out driving and mellowing by June.

So say one were to purchase an Imola Yellow Audi TT…

I believe the owner/builder is an engineer for Koenigsegg. This car was flown over from Sweden for the SEMA show last year.

Anyway, it’s mine. I’m 37, have a wife and 2 kids. I actually bought it looking like this, except with a set of 14" wheels and snows. It came with the ghetto Fliks.

Car: bought for $800

Total money into it with the following maintenance (water pump with housing, thermostat, timing belt, tensioner, valve cover gasket, all breather tubes, water neck on head, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, wheel bearings, fresh synthetic oil change, Bosal/Brospeed stainless exhaust), including the car: $1500

30mpg even when beat upon mercilessly by my wife who drives it more than I.

Pretty sound, adult decision, I would say.

its a stereotype, and profiling im suprised she didnt get a window tint ticket. 90% of those jettas out there have brake light issues too.

when that car was new it was a sensible “adult” car. but now its seen as a “teen” car because thats what they can afford.
