i can tell you from personal exp. that the solid mount thing is going to get VERY old VERY fast. the buzz at idle is fine and high high rpm is fine its the sustained rpm for cruising that is horrible. had them in my rabbit to raise the motor in the bay so i could drive it without the pan being ripped off, it last 2 weeks and I hated driving it so much I redisigned and used a leaf shackle bushing to absorb some vibrations. This pretty much eliminated engine movement while making it not as bad to drive. My advice to you is make a second set of mounts with some sort of vibration dampening and try the ones youy got. if you are ONLY racing the car you prob wont car but if you drive it on the streets your ganna HATE the buzz, it ripps through the car light asonic boom. As always the parts look great and I hope you dont take my reply wrong,I’m just saying this becuase I’ve tried it, had solid mount in the supra too, didnt last, same problem was WAY to buzzy…and didnt really make much difference in drivability, actually made it kinda jumpy at low speeds.
It’s a race car.
^ Depends on the motor too. I love my solid mounts so much, no vibration.
true, but inline 6’s are usually very well balanced, so you luck out.
Thanks man, post up some more dude. Sounds like you had some cool rides and have some knowledge to share.
My initial idea was here: http://shift518.com/showthread.php?t=19961 POST 11 to be exact. But I got lazy, lol and buzzed these out real quick to get the motor mocked up in place and keep moving forward on the project.
Once I run it and my teeth fall out, I am sure i will move back to the bushing idea and make another dogbone with a adjustable heim on one end and a bushing on the other.
this is VERY true. V8’s are not bad for the most part with solid mounts. they are ballanced alot better. I6’s same boat. Even the VR6 seems to be ballanced better.
the 1.8T, yeahh not so much! 1,4 up, 2,3 down on the crank. so its more or less a concrete tamper!
The more this project moves along the less likely it will be that it racks up miles on the streets. Reliability, driveability, legality, comfert, etc… as much as I say it didnt, it really fell off the cliff of me saying “yeah its a street car, ill drive it all over the place”. lol
Side note on the project. Holidays are over, money should be back in my pocket soon and play time should be more on my favor. (minus the wife just broke her wrist on newyears eve and had to get it set and casted, so I have to help her out alot at home) Last week Yetti and I cleaned up the bottom end on the good motor, removed the old mock up one and trans, I have to make a oil filter housing plate to run the AN lines and remote filter and oil cooler stuff, make a thermostat housing for an AN line and the AN fitting for the head too. brake lines are ordered and can be bent up and installed soon. box o tranmission pieces I still need to dig through and put a trans back together.
Even my car isn’t too bad with solid mounts, and I removed the balance shafts in my engine. Granted I have some small poly bushings to help a little, but they’re like a rock for the most part.
yeah who knows. I will see in a few months. I guess Yetti said his jetta was a little rough with the eurosport or what ever it was solid dog bone though! lol
My GLI was rough, the rear view mirror was always pointed down and unusable. I had the VF mounts and dog bone. I had extra vibration from the single mass flywheel as well
I wish i had a company to build motor mounts for me, and tranny mounts would be sweet too.
Make them, I’m sure it’s easy!
I know someone who can.:rofl
for serious. If you can get me the stock ones for a little while so I can measure them and spec them out, I can put them in SW and design something and make them for you. Nobody makes anything aftermarket for your ride?
Nope. The best thing we have is the SRT challenger 6 speed mounts which are beefed up a little bit. One company made 5 sets of prototype solid mounts and they all blew apart.
LOL I dont like my chances of them staying together then! LOL. blew apart as in how? any pics of the stockers? so I can get an idea of how they look?
The poly they used sucked i think and just cracked and blew apart. Ill find some pics.
Pm sent!
yeah i had them as well, and a single mass billet flywheel and my mirror barelly had vibration. you probably had your idle set to stock level. if you bumped the idle to around 800-825rpm its not bad.
I guess to buzzy is kinda a personal opinion. Every car is a little different too. My girl’s 2.slow with bfi mounts suck at idle and constant 3k rpm cruising speed. If you want to see the rabbit check out my webpage, boxcarboy updated a ton of pictures. Its a little different but fun as shit…can’t wait for the warm weather the turbs setup got done just in time for winter… Erg
fixed:hug
You should also point out that some unknown ass hat failed to install your FW properly resulting in loose bolts and a loose FW that royally fucked up the crank register.
I certainly remember because I was the poor 6’3" bastard that was crammed into your engine bay as a fucking gearbox, hand milling the fucking crank surface back to spec.
I want a ride in the car with those in it. it’d be like driving down a washboard at idle. sounds fun, Mike.
