Allegheny County Rental Car/Drink Tax

I hope people have more house party’s instead of going out anymore to show these idiots what a poor poor route they’ve chosen to try and cover their tracks.

KEgerator ftw!

It is not Rendells project . It is the ex executive ceo of Port Authority Paul Sketelisand funded by the federal government

$340,000,000 is funded by the fed, $90,000,000 + $40,000,000 (overbudget) comes from us tax payers.

they should do a study to see if more people pregame before going to a bar or club now and in-turn the rate of DUI accidents increase.

the connector project go the fuckin northside a Goddamn mess again. i 've worked at PNC park since march 01 and there hasn;t been a week without some kind of construction. that dumb ass thing is gonna take a few years to finish. its such a waste. who the fuck uses our subway anyway… all i see is a bunch of free loaders at the stops downtown. people need to walk their fat asses across the 4 bridges right there.

I use the T to come into the games from the South Side. It’s great transportation to get into town. But I definitely never had an issue walking across a bridge to get to the games. I wonder if it will get extended out over to the new casino too. I think it would benefit both the city and the people if they would have put Mass transit down 28 instead of doing the whole connector bullshit.

mass transit to the east! relieve that parkway rush hour traffic

Rendell got him the federal funding, so it is partially his responsibility. Yea your boy Paul did a great job of fucking shit up over the past 12-13 years? and leaving the P.A. with something like 25 mil in the whole? that led to this whole ordeal…Not including the North Shore Connector project clusterfuck…that was like his going away present.

How about he should have got clue before wasting money on stupid ass bullshit like weird paint jobs on the buses. I wonder what the line was like for that ‘necessity’?

glad i live right next to washington county now.

now i cant find if it covers all alcoholic drinks because sometimes it refers to it as a poured drink. can anyone shine some light on this

Onorato says drink tax was the right tonic for budget
Wednesday, December 05, 2007
By Karamagi Rujumba, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
On the day after he won a long and bitterly fought campaign to impose two new taxes, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato sought to heal the wounds of restaurateurs and business owners who believe they will be penalized by the taxes.
“Take the emotion out of this and you see this made sense,” Mr. Onorato said at a press conference. “Other cities have had this tax for many years and it has not hurt them. Based on the history, it shouldn’t be as hard as [restaurateurs] think it’s going to be,” he said.
Mr. Onorato yesterday successfully pushed through Allegheny County Council a 10 percent tax on poured alcoholic drinks and a $2 a day tax on car rentals, which he proposed as dedicated revenue streams for the county’s $30 million subsidy of the Port Authority.
His administration, he said, together with council will lobby the state legislature in Harrisburg on behalf of restaurateurs and other business owners to increase the state’s discount of wholesale liquor from 10 percent to 14 percent.
Mr. Onorato said he would also support a sense of council action by county Councilman Mike Finnerty, D-Scott, who has proposed to lobby the state legislature to authorize other counties in the state to adopt similar drink and car rental taxes.
But even as he pledged to reach out to the hospitality industry, Mr. Onorato held his ground that the two taxes were the right solution for the county’s fiscal troubles at the moment.
Furthermore, he argued, “[these new taxes] are not unusual. Many cities and counties . . . have had a drink tax for many years.”

30 mil, my bad.

speakin of those weird paint jobs… the one set of busses say “zaggin” all over it… i saw it in my mirror one day “niggaz”

I just coughed on a trisket.

:bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

Yup, suppossedly by 2008-09ish Wash county is going to be 7% just like the rest of us:jerkit: Gay IMO

Free bus rides for drunks should be imposed now.
with a security guard

Stuff like this makes my blood boil… taxpayers should have more of an input involving these issues.

agreed.

i forget where i read this, but a while back i read an article stating why they were continuing to build the north side connector. as it turns out, the only reason why they have continued to build it is because all of the plans had already been made to have it constructed. there was a quote by someone from the port authority stating that if the plans were not there, they would have extended the T to the east or out to oakland/shadyside. so pretty much they are just following through with plans that had already been made even though they realize it’s not the best choice. now they are attempting to come up with reasons to support it.

i could care less about the $2 per day charge on rental cars. the 10% drink tax is absurd though. not that i drink a lot, but as many other people have mentioned, this is a result of the county’s poor budgeting over many years. i really do hope that this changes a lot of people’s minds about going out to the bars and drinking a lot. i’m assuming that their profit margin’s on this drink tax were calculated using the current alcohol consumption rate. well, i hope the consumption rate at bars falls significantly in allegheny county to send a nice big F U to the county officials.

Well, that sucks dick.

Fayette County FTW
