Here are some pics of the final product, just have to polish a few thigns here and there. Full stainless steel, looks really good on the car, although I’m very tired of putting it on and taking it off so many times.
Took me about 10 hours total, including correcting the improper mounting position 4 times (cutting/rewelding). Need to put in another solid hour of work and this thing will be a beauty.
It’s a 3" exhaust, split into twin 2.5" pipes. The ugly middle hanger will be ground down and made nice… I just ran out of metal for hangers.
Because those who have seen started asking me question my answer ahead of time is NO I WILL NOT make custom exhausts for people, my time is too valuable and you cannot afford it, so don’t even ask.
hey u gotta give props for the cost and DIY factor.
i couldnt have done it, thats for sure.
of course it isnt perfect, and Pavel knows that, but if it works then he will have the satisfaction of knowing he built it and shaved $500 of his cost of swap.
plus DD style is NUTZORS…
if i had to get another exhuast it would be the only one i would consider.
I’m worried that the ‘T’ you have for the 2nd pipe may be taking from over all flow, if you can try to ease in the 2nd tube as say a 20-40 degree angle…
a quick fix might be to just chop a round out of the 2nd tube and the main pipe and then fab over a pc of sheet metal… so it tents over the hole… just a thought.
As mentioned my only concern would be the area where the pipe splits.
It looks like the one on the right won’t be getting much flow into it. If you
have time talk to me on MSN… I have an idea on how to do that with the
materials you already have and make it perfect. (If you even care that is)
Overall good job…
(Pavel first touched a welder a month ago, now hes on a rampage )
The flow in the split will be good because the pipe coming from the side actually laps inside of the 3 inch so it takes a lot of the flow from the 3" pipe.
Also. if you calculate the surface area of the 3" pipe is 1.5^2 x 3.14 = 7.065
The 2.5 is 1.25^2 x 3.14 x 2 = 9.8125. Using the formula of pi x radius squared. I still have room to spare, so i think it’ll be okay, thanks for the concerns though.
Applesauce, my car is a street car, I’d love to make my exhaust come out through the front fender, or before the rear wheel or on top of my rear wheel, but that will just attract even more unwanted police attention, sorry to disappoint you.
I was looking forward to a side exit with sepperate pipe for the waste gate. Not to worry, I’m sure this will be a heat score without a muffler or resonator.
