Aluminum Grand National motor???

see boostjunkie for motors

good unbored 109 blocks are not that easy to come by.
109 are high nickel content blocks which were off center and discontinued from gm in 1997…

see boostjunkie again for this

Thanks for the info…

heeeeeeeeeeere boostjunkie,junkie

the s2k is staying stock motor and all. This is for a new project

GM performance parts still sells the 60 Degree Aluminum engine blocks, much lighter/compact.

As much as I want to do that motor, the funds just arn’t there. I think i’ll have a hard enough time handling a mildly built regular old GN motor in the car im building. :eek3:

on center block ,gn heads /intake will not bolt up.
and its not high nickel-good block though-go gtp

i never suggested to use the GN heads, they’re two totally different engines…

it doesn’t matter anyway if he has no loot, the blocks cost 3 grand from GM, 1500 ish used.

ya, thats a little crazy right there. I’m sure the wet weight of the car im going to put this in isn’t going to be more than 2300lbs!

O ya, and what is it about FWD heads on the GN motor that is in 89 Pace cars? I heard that they used the FWD heads on the pace cars b/c of space and they turned out to flow more, hence the hp difference.

you affraid of to much power in a light car?

I’m using the DOHC version of the above engine in this Project so stop being a girl :wtcslap: . You can build these engines pretty cheap, using alot of parts from the SBC’s and other parts from the General’s parts bin.

I’m not affraid of too much power, I’m just worried about keeping the car legal for how quick its going to go PLUS the fact that I have to make a short wheelbase go straight and not wig out at 140-150mph through the traps. I’ll start it slow like 11’s or 10’s and work it from there.

does that DOHC motor have any relations with the GN motor? the only reason I’d wanna keep it simple is because I am wired up and ready to go with an 87 GN motor. sure I could change it, but for now I’d like to keep things simple and on the budget.

no the DOHC is part of the 60 degree engine family and are EF, the buick V6’s are all 90 degree engines and are OF’s.

the t/a heads created more compression so they used different pistons to lower the compression to a safer buick level on the pontiac.

well the GN was out first in 86-7 then 89 was the pace car… I don’t get what you said.

i got a 87 109 block, turbo crank, fresh 8445 heads, brand new .030 hyper pistons, for sale.

those chambers on pontiac heads are different then buicks heads

they -bolted on to a gn block -will raise the compression enough to detonate stock vehicles under warrenty

pontiac therefore used different pistons(dished) to lower the compression back down to what the gn was

ok, so it is still true then that initially they used the FWD heads b/c of clearance issues? It is obviously not a good idea to try to swap these heads?

In the end then though, the smaller chamber heads with different pistons STILL made more HP than the GN motors? So might this be something to try?

champion heads=end of story

I saw the article in hotrod about the new TA alum block

$4k, damn 700hp with a TT setup

thats what I saw too

what fails on the cast blocks to warrant the switch to alm. blocks?
