Are there any domestic market aluminum block straight 6’s?
yes. why?
GM’s I6 in the colorado & trailblazer is the only one that comes to mind in current production though.
The colorado is a I-5.
The trailblazer has a 4.2litre I-6
That’s a 5 cylinder and aluminum is lighter and has better thermal properties than iron.
Thank you captain obvious…
The question is why are you looking for one?
GM’s straight 6 is a fucking BEEFY Motor. A shop down south built a turbo kit for it and on a totally stock motor it put down 515 RWHP.
Theyre New, so theyre gonna be a bit hard to find, but heres one on ebay
On a side note…
Standard in TrailBlazer LT models, the Vortec 4.2L I-6 engine generates 285 hp — unsurpassed in its class(1) — at 6000 rpm and 276 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm.
PS: the top ends on all of GM’s new RWD inline motor’s (2.9, 3.7 ,and 4.2) are all designed and built by Honda.
I was unaware that Honda builds the top end but I’m really leaning against anything GM anyways.
Just because the answer I gave you isn’t the answer you were looking for doesn’t mean that’s not ‘why’ so take your attitude elsewhere.
lol. ok.
I was asking why you were looking into these because I was heavily into those particular motors when I owned my 02 Trailblazer and was going to try to give you some direction on the motor… if you were infact going that route.
I know you’re still new, but you’re need to thicker skin then that
LOL, some old AMCs had AL I6’s, probably waaaaaaay earlier than what you’re looking for though…
US made or USDM, big difference there
I may be new to this particular board but I’m not new to this arena by any means so don’t think you’re some elder guru that’s here to teach me a few things, it’s the other way around. You asked ‘why’ and I told you why, if you wanted a different answer you should have been more specific. If your reason for asking was to just tell me that you were familiar with the engine, you should have just cut to the chase and said that, I don’t care for pointless chit-chat.
Then why are you posting so much of it? In your own thread even?
Please, teach me something about USDM I6 motors.
USDM. I’m more leaning towards something european or japanese but I really don’t see the point of importing something from another country if there is something already right here. I’m aware the 328 and 335 have aluminum or alloy blocks but they’re way too new to pick up something cheap. Unless you of course have a hook up?
If I knew then I wouldn’t have started this thread now, would I? You’re not very bright, are you?
Jeep 4.0…ROCKSTAR motor…cant bust it.
Hes looking for foreign built (BMW, Toyota, Volvo Etc.) straight sixes sold here in America.
:picard:
Ok.
Not that I ever said, nor implied I would teach you anything. You went ahead and stated you’re going to teach me a few things. I’ve got ~2 more hours to kill, so please go on:
Thats just stupid…why the F didnt he ask that…and why the F does it make a shit of difference.
I lean towards european or japanese but I’m open for anything that’s not GM. I worked for GM and I know first-hand just how terrible their products are. The only thing GM I would go for is Cadillac or Corvette, things are much different in those two divisions but I don’t know anything in a straight-6 format from either of those that isn’t older than me.
Are there really only 2 aluminum I6’s here save for the new BMW’s?
