Explain to me why it matters? There are about 9000 other choices in a V6 or I-5 configuration. This thread sucks.
I know of a N54 complete swap with 6-speed
There’s a million and 1 reasons why an I6 is better than a V6 and if you really care that much, start your own thread. I started this thread to learn, not to teach. If all you guys want to do is spam it, why the hell do you even bother to read it?
That is pretty cheap but still a bit too rich for me. As for the other engines, I believe the only alloy one to ever be shipped here was in the Z3. I could be mistaken though.
The M54B25 is a 2.5 L (2494 cc) engine with an 84 mm bore and 75 mm stroke. It is all-alloy with Al-Sil block, fracture-split forged steel connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and a reinforced plastic intake manifold. Output is 192 hp (143 kW) at 6000 rpm with 175 ft·lbf (245 Nm) of torque at 3500 rpm. It is built in Steyr, Austria.
The M54B30 is a 3.0 L (2979 cc) successor of the 2.8 L BMW M52. Bore remains the same at 84 mm, but stroke is increased 5.6 mm to 89.6 mm. Power is 231 hp (168 kW) while torque is 221 ft·lbf (300 Nm).
It is an all-alloy engine with Al-Sil block. It uses SFI fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder with Double VANOS (variable valve timing) and features fracture-split forged steel connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and reinforced plastic intake manifold. It is produced in Steyr, Austria.
Who the fuck are you? You come on with 30 posts and are rude and demanding. Why don’t you try being a little polite and maybe people won’t mind trying to help you out a bit. While calling people out for their lack of intelligence you might what to realize that Corvette is not a division of GM, its one fucking car. Also Cadillac is just as GM as Chevy or Pontiac. Since you used to work for GM please enlighten us as to where exactly you worked, what you did and why they suck so bad. Cuz frankly I think you’re full of shit and I’m calling you out on it.
maybe they suck so bad because people like him work there. I KID I KID. But seriously.
uhhhh there definetly is a corvette division of GM. its not a whole seperate brand per say but it is definetly a dedicated group of individuals within GM who work exclusively with the development of the corvette.
also, obviously Cadillac is a GM brand much in the same way as chevy or pontiac. Where Cadillac differs, however is the luxury and performance inherent in some of its models which is unabtainable in the lower GM brands. (XLR-V for example.) This is what he was reffering to with wanting something from Caddilac.
And on the “I don’t believe you could have worked at GM” comment, thats quite ignorant to say considering GM is a fairly large employer in the area… (I.E. Tonawanda engine plant ect.)
Old school maximas had a I6, it was like in the late 80’s
Supras(duh)
Volvo and Saab have their bulletproof I5’s
And GM has the I5 made by Izuzu.
Audi had there I5s as well.
There are the old school Slant 6’s of the 60’s and 70’s
Are you his dad or something? He’s more than welcome to prove me wrong.
where is this thread exactly going y are you looking for a aluminum block? what are you putting it in? what are your plans for it? the easyest n cheapest way would b to get a cast iron block like the rb series motor. u can pick up rb20det engine sets all day for 900 bucks
Are you mad that someone on here actually knows what they’re talking about?
Well first of all I didn’t get lippy until someone got lippy with me. It’s a very simple concept. As for you not believing I worked for GM, that’s not my concern. Believe what you want but FYI, Delphi employs 1400 in Rochester and we absorbed the Coopersville, Michigan fuel injection plant during my very brief stint with them. If you want to get technical and say Delphi is no longer owned by GM, you are correct but I doubt you know that much about it anyways. 95% of our product is sold to GM. All FI systems in GM cars were made by us except for Cadillac and Corvette, both of which ARE divisions of GM, whether you also want to believe that is of no importance.
So as we were saying, I think the only alum/alloy I6 to be had without spending some large sum of money would be from the BMW Z3. That’s what I will be keeping my eye out for and thank you to the few people that actually took me seriously.
/thread
i like cavi mike because he seems like he might be interested in making some sort of cool frankenstein…
interested in the plans for this.
aluminum I6 in anything is the hotness. just get that 335 swap.
how about the I3.6L thats in my car, C36 AMG. 286 hp stock with about the same tq. i would love to see someone boost one of these.
Here’s what my plan was and how this whole thing came to be:
We bought a markIII Supra with a seized motor and we’re putting a sbc in it. When we pulled the motor I came to think, why not put this in the Corolla?
Well after some talking on a Toyota forum I came across someone who’s done it and apparently the engine sits too far past the front axle and the sheer weight of the engine make the car almost undriveable.
At first I scrapped the idea altogheter but then I started thinking, aluminum? Since this board has a wider range of enthusiasts on it, I figured this would be the best place to ask.
I wanted to stay I6 since piping for a turbo is cake and there’s a lot more room on either side for everything.
It’s really started to spiral out of control since I just found a BMW 3.0 V8 for $400, dry weight 447lbs and now I’m thinking screw a turbo.
For the question about what cars I made systems for, I don’t know if you have Delphi or Bosch but if you have M2, M3, M3.5 or a “flex fuel” system, it was made right here at our Lexington Ave plant. Although the ECU’s are built elsewhere. We don’t deal with electronics.
i’m really hoping that my engine location doesn’t make my car undriveable… it’s a bit more forward of the stock engine, but the trans is also much heavier…
It’s because of the shape of my car, the engine bay is short, the cabin is very far forward and the car already has a very short wheelbase. In order to make a long, heavy motor work, I need to move the firewall. That’s definitely not happening.
Cars like the Supra and BMW’s have very long engine bays, the cabin is far back and the front axle is very far forward, especially on a BMW. Front overhang is almost non-existant. This puts the motor closer to the center of the car and even with an iron block I6, my 328 has almost perfect 50/50 balance.
