Am I overreacting? v. auto transport

Ok I bought my Firebird formula in NJ

I made arrangements with a place called AA in NJ to pick the car up and deliver it

AA told me that once the car is picked up that it is not loaded and unloaded, that it is not put in holding lot and then picked back up or anything , they told me once it is picked up it is delivered, most of the time the same day

Ok so I filled out the paper work and gave AA my CC# for the deposit

The woman on the phone told me the car would be picked up Tues/Weds and would be here no later than Thurs

Ok so AA subcontracted to a place called Empire out of Syracuse

Empire told the seller of the car that they would be out to pick it up on Tues, Tues came and went he didnt see them

So he called and called and couldnt get ahold of them

Weds comes and again nothing, he calls AA and they get ahold of Empire and Empire comes and picks the car up about 7pm Friday night.

The driver told the seller of the car that it would be “delivered tomorrow morning” meaning Saturday

Well yesterday around noon I hadnt heard anything so I called Empire, no one answered and I left a message

I had to go to work at 3 so I called AA and said wtf is going on I need to know when they are coming so I can make sure someone is here and to pay them the balance upon delivery

AA asked what # I called for Empire and I told him and he said they had some other #s to get ahold of them and he would get ahold of them and call me back

So today I still havent heard anything

I tried both places and got voice mails at both places

I left a message at AA saying that I understand delays happen, weather related, mechanical ect ect but not getting any answer as to where my car is or whats going on for 2 days is bullshit

I told him that if I dont get an update by tomorrow at this time I am calling the NYS police and reporting the car stolen…

Over reacting?

nope.

sounds like bad communication on the shippers part, but you have to be patient at the same time. not your fault there are delays, but they should be telling you what the deal is.

I am a patient guy but from 7pm friday to right now no one has been able to tell me where the car is or when its coming

I need to get it put away before we get buried with snow

after delivery, cancel the credit card and go into payment negotiations with the shipping company.

I would be flipping out too, I would also be asking for some kind of discount or compensation for them jerking you around for a week

the problem is the deposit has already gone through (its on my debit card) and I owe them the balance in cash

do you have it in writing the days of scheduled delivery and/or pickup? this could be the determining factor or whether you have a case against them.

the deposit is a small portion correct? Withhold the cash until you come to an agreement with the company.

I would still report the car stolen if you don’t get a hold of anyone.

the only thing on the contract is the pickup date which they are within the limits, nothing stated about delivery

Typical contract , they are not responsible for anything , bend over and grab your ankles yadda yadda

I paid them $200 down and owe them $290 cash when they drop the car off

I am not so much worried about the delay, I am worried about the utter lack of information and communication, almost like they are dodging the issue…

sorry to hear that bro, I had a situation like this one not too long ago…

best method of action.

  1. Call monday morning and let empire/aa know that you are reporting the car stolen, (this will get them on there toes)

  2. despite what everyone says DO NOT CANCEL your card or have any stray ends on your part, (this is important because if this will become a legal matter you need to show that you were not only ready but willing to pay the full amount, and also if you cancel the car that the deposit went through on your waisting a little piece of plastic because you and I know that you can get anything back if false charges appear, so dont worry.

  3. Sorry =(

  4. Check and see if there is a guarentee delevery date, if soo make the supervisor aware that you are not going to pay full price for a half assed job…

like anything else the COSTOMER is always right, and honestly it sounds like your getting jerked around soo it sounds like you deserve a break…

Best of luck =)

Most of these companies are small companies, they are truck drivers, it is far from un common to have this type of communication issue.

Report it stolen if the car doesn’t show up or get a status, sure I’d do the same. Also never pay for shit on a debit card, always credit. Chargeback is awesome

thanks for the advice guys, thats what I will do!

:meh: real shady thing to do. Holding a business hostage to get your way

No, people do it in business everyday. If my delivery on a project is even 2 hours late, our customers will refuse payment. We have had several instances of 100k plus being held until a resolution was reached.

2 hours late? I would say you need new customers then. Still it sounds VERY VERY shady to cancel a credit card payment once the car is delieved and safe just to twist the arm of the company. Most of these transport companies are private mom & pop companies

No, I deal with the largest contractors in the state, I want them as my customers as it brings in large $ without chasing little jobs. It is really just the nature of my business with the big guys like frey or o’connell and the control that they have over the vendors. Being that I am surrounded by it every day I guess that it affects my view on things. Probably isn’t a good thing but eh whatever.

Not overreacting.

Not overreacting at all. I had a similar situation happen once when I shipped a car and flipped out too then they dropped the car off @ a Walmart plaza like 3 miles from my house and said thats as close as they could get. Then I bought the Cobra and it was 3 days early. You never can tell. I hope it all works out for you.

No response from them all day while I was at work

I will update again tomorrow
