Shoot it with a .22 and put it out of its misery. Most BB guns are just going to injure it and make it suffer.
Its not illegal to shoot something if your defending yourself from an attack

I watched them take down a 70 lb boar with a .22 air gun. CRAZY
10 pumps on the old daisy and a carefully placed pellet will do just fine.
Is it me, or is there a TON of skunks around amherst in the last month and change ?
You don’t have many options… and they will spray again after a shot to the head… Drown is your best / only option.
I saw a skunk in my back yard 2 months ago while mowing, ran inside, grabbed a pistol, then problem solved lol. This is why I love living out here, neighbors didn’t blink, and a .40 is pretty damn loud.
You can always call animal control and tell them the skunk is aggressive towards people and you think it might be rabid. That might get them moving.

Chloroform squirt gun? I would say that for the future, design some sort of enclosure for the cage that would allow you to easily close it without startling the skunk and just gas it to death. Argon maybe? Car exhaust (pre-cat if possible)? Might knock it unconscious before it actually sprays?
Before someone calls me hitler, I’d say those 2 would be relatively painless versus drowning it.
Move to North Collins. When I lived there, a town official that I was talking to actually said “The guy in the new house across the street called to ask if it’s legal for him to shoot down the RC airplanes if they fly over his property. We didn’t really know the answer.”:shrug:
Animal Control will take care of rabid skunks. However, they will shoot it and leave it for you to dispose of it. The guy that shows up, looks like John Goodman in Arachnophobia…cigar and all.
Personally, I’d say I saw it walking about during the day time (the only time skunks appear during the day, is if they are rabid) and call them up.
I’ve personally had to deal with two skunks over the summer. Bastards kept spraying my neighbors dog. The smell when it’s within 50 yards of you is horrible. Like, not “holy shit it smells” horrible. It’s more like “holy shit, my eyes are watering and I can’t breathe” horrible.
I’m the sole member of my very own creation I’ve implemented into my neighborhood. I refer to it as S.C.E.N.T. - Skunk Control Execution and Neutralization Team.

Well I came home yesterday to my neighbor telling me he called around to have someone remove it. The cheapest he found was $105. Ouch!
But skunk is gone so I’m happy
