Ouch… Cant wait to get this one apart. This model came with the custom sightglass window block option for viewing your oil level, the invisible rod option and the sideways pistons. Just a few pics for your viewing pleasure.
PS- the pushrod shown in the picture… isnt where you think it is. look lower.
i wish my block came with a viewing window… that’d be awesome!
Do the sideways pistons reduce drag or something?
Did the owner tell you what happened?

I can install the window option for you, free of charge. I’ll call you when I have had a bad day and you can drop by…
The sideways pistons reduce drag so much that you dont even need engine oil. We drill holes in your block (5 per side) to make sure that no oil is able to stay in the engine… it just causes more trouble than its worth.
Yea, the owner told me what happened. This car made BIG power, but the shop that put the engine in the car didnt “force” him to buy the Comp Coupe oil pan or something better. He told them he’ll never track the car. Guess what, he did… once. Big power+stock pan is bad enough. Big power+stock pan+road course= death sentance.
It will be rebuilt Better. Stronger. Faster… kinda like the million dollar man. new block/crank, NICE rods and pistons, NICE bearings, new coating set at a minimum. Hopefully he’ll go for the billet caps, a full stud kit and a nice oil system though, as not to repeat this, and to make the bottom end quite literally… bulletproof.
This isnt going to be a cheap one, thats for sure. easily over 10 grand just for the block, 2 pistons and 2 rods… not to mention bearings, seals, headwork or head depending on extent, and a REAL oil system… and God knows what else by the time its all apart.
just goes to show ya, no matter how much money you have stupidity is right around the corner.

I kinda have to spread the blame around a little. the owner certainly knew it would be an issue, but how much of an issue probably wasnt conveyed to him. I told him flat out the other day, if that car was assembled here, I would NOT let him have his car back with the stock pan, period. He would have had to sign his name on the dotted line multiple times that he understood just how big of a risk it was before getting his hands on that car again.
I dont think the other place pushed him quite as hard as I would have.
Then again, he did tell them the car wouldnt go on the track… but we all know how that goes, and they should have known the same.
Tough call… either way, it was an expensive mistake, but mistakes happen.
it must have deviated from a straight line while accelerating

Exactly, you found the problem! Only problem is, the oil system issues require over 1G accelleration sustained to the side to occur… but since the Viper cant take a turn… :gotme:
