Cobra or Viper

So lately I have been giving some serious thought to selling the Cobra and all my parts. I am having a hard time trying to decide what I want to do for sure. Here are my options.

  1. STFU and keep the cobra, put all my mods on it, finish exterior mods come spring, drive and enjoy.

  2. Buy 01-02 Rt/10 viper. Put exhaust and pimp CCW 505s on it, drive and enjoy.

I almost feel bad for saying it but I just like the looks of the viper so much more then my car. The body lines are so much sexier. I look at my car and I still love it, but when i look at a viper to me theres no comparison as far as looks go. Not to mention the fun factor of driving one, I think it would be alot more fun to drive then my cobra. But on the flip side, the cobra will be pretty mean if I hang onto it and put all my stuff on, and that will make it that much more fun to drive on the street. Especially if i get my lightbar, speedster cover and rear wing from saleen to make it alot more aggressive on the exterior.

I really am leaning towards selling the car and parts, and picking up a nice red rt/10, but i cant help and wonder if down the road i may regret doing it. No doubt the viper will be a blast, but i wonder if i will think “what if” about the SVT.

Anyways, hopefully tomorrow the roads will be dry. I am supposed to take out my friend’s GTS for a good ride, that will also give me alot of impressions on how much i like/dislike driving the car. But from riding in 2 so far i have been really impressed with them both.

So I guess what I am asking is, if you were in my position, which would you do. Mod the Cobra and keep that, or sell the cobra and parts and buy a viper? Why?

I think i pretty much have my mind made up, but maybe someone can put a new perspective on all of this for me that will change my outlook. TIA for your input.

Just to give you an idea what the car will look like if i do get it. (although i would have to have black int in my viper, dont like that tan at all) But I think it looks wayyy better then my cobra. (though i still love my svt so dont kill me bladez and weich :smiley: )

Thoughts? Input? I think my mind is made up, im just looking for someone to make me feel not guilty for getting rid of the cobra :cry:

i would personally like the cobra.

it would unique to this area, and people in general.

plus the KB whistling…is going to make you want to cream your pants.

you are just used to your car, how it looks. The same thing will happen with a viper in a few years.

When i first saw your cobra…i was like “holy shit, thats fucking pure titties”.

Had it been a viper…i probably wouldn’t have looked at it twice.

thats just my 2 pennies though.

Honestly mike, I understand why you like the viper. So if its worth it to spend the extra cash on it and you can do it, go for it. Seems like a lot of money to be spending on the car, but hey if its within your means :tup:

I guess the main question is: how much more are you giving up to buy the viper? insurance will go up + the price of the car right? I dont know if you have a house or not, but i would take a hot modded cobra with a house over a viper and an apartment :slight_smile:

However I think if you’re going to get a viper, go for a GTS…and that tan interior on that red viper is kinda :tdown:

yeah i know it would be awesome with the KB no doubt. And its not so much that I am used to my car, its just that i never considered i could get a viper, but now i can. Ive loved em since they came out, especially in 96 when the GTS came out.

See heres the thing. A nice 99-02 rt/10 now goes for anywhere from 43ish K all the way up to 55k. If i sell the cobra, all my parts, and save til spring, it wont really hurt any other financial plans that i have for down the road. After all, it is just a luxury and a car i am talking about, no reason to jeopardize myself financially for a car. I would never be considering it unless i felt very comfortable with the $ numbers of it all.

As for insurance, I talked to Final GTS and Marcus and they are both actually paying only slightly more then i pay for my cobra, and Dan is younger then me. So that wouldnt be bad at all. But yeah i dont like that tan intrior either, they come with black, id find one with that.

ever considered a new Z06? i understand the love affair with the viper but the Z06 outta the box is just as good if not better performance wise. and from everything ive read about the viper, its about as good a DD as a sprint car comfort wise. so the vette would be way better for the times your just going from point A to point B. I personally would get the viper because i dont need the creature comforts in a car like that and cause of the bling factor. but i also would have another vehicle as a DD.

im gonna go against my instinct here, and say keep the Cobra. As much as i would LOVE to see another nice Viper around here, they are not practical for everyday driving. The cobra, at least you can get away with driving it to work and whatnot everyday. un;ess you have a very reliable DD, then id personally stay away from a Viper for now

ohh my bad i forgot to add, i have a daily driver to get me to work, school, out, etc. Regardless of what i decide the viper/cobra is just a nice day cruiser/occasional track/street car. As for a Z06. They are hot no doubt, but IMO i prefer the looks of the viper. Just my personal tastes. And besides that, id have to get a considerable loan for a new z06, and thats something im not willing to do.

Mike if I were you I would just finish the Cobra. Its gonna be a real unique badass ride when its all finished that you built up yourself. Cant say that about some viper.

the cobra will prolley run 10’s be fully streetable,u can put 3-4 ppl in it besides yourself,and all of the exterior mods will be done to what you want it to be…not get some gay 2-door diper with just exhaust…

the viper has always been my fav. american sports car, and the resale on a stock viper will always be high,but then again it might not be the best DD, when i see a viper i always do a double take when i see a vette i dont even bother. go with the viper,and if u dont like it in another year or two sell it with minimal loss…
