CCWs = drool
keep the cobra…unless you get a gts style viper…why?..becasue the rear end on the rt/10 looks kinda gay…plus your cobra will be awesome when completed…
lol… I dont think I have to even put my opinion in here.
And as far as insurance goes: The Viper is not a “blacklisted” car due to low production numbers overall. SOME companies will not insure them, but they are few and far between. I personally have used Progressive and Geico, and pay about 1400/Yr on my SRT for full coverage w/glass and all the do-dads… My record is completely clean however. On my GTS it was the same, and that was when I was 18. It should be less for Mike, I think he is 26- which is over the hump for insurance rates.
I do strongly recomend driving ALL model Vipers before you make a final decision which one to go with. If you can go to 60K, you have your pick up to a used 2003. They are all different. Gen-1 is a brute… more finicky, little more grunt on the lower end, LOVES to turn them over and slap you upside the head at a moments notice. Gen-2 is a little more refined, with power windows, nicer interior, etc, as well as the GTS being available. Gets a slight revamp again in 99 for both models…“Creampuff” cars begin in 2000, powerband moved slightly up, NGR goes away. ABS comes in 2001, then SRT in 2003.
PS- Feel free to drop by today or tomorrow… I have nothing to do until Tuesday when all my contacts open back up after the holidays. You can see first hand how exactly these things are put together. I doubt you will ever see one in as many peices as mine currently is. Even though the car is different from Gen1/2/3, the philosophy and building style remains unchanged.
Dammit I hate being <25. That’s what I pay for full coverage on my Jetta with Progressive.
IMO, “I Built This”>>>“I Threw Down A Wad Of Cash For This” So I would keep the Mustang if I were making the choice.
But whoever brought up the financial differences had a very good point. I can’t imagine that a used Viper will lose much of any value over a couple more years, whereas a modded Mustang will likely only depreciate at about the same rate as any other car.
Choice C: Get a real Cobra… a Shelby Cobra.
i think a viper would get you a lot more attention from people who arent into cars.
House would be the best investment
What about the new GT500 Cobra? Those are going to be really nice when they come out, or so I hear (I have a friend who works for SVT on brake development on the new GT500).
but the mustang will get you more attention from people who are in to (modding) cars.
But like i said before i still think the vipers resale will still be 704884x better, IMO
Thanks Dan. Yeah I am not too worried about insurance. I think I still have one red light ticket on my record from a few years ago, but that should be gone real soon. Like you said I am in a better insurance bracket, so I think I should have no problems here.
Now as far as getting a gen3. Well no offense, I just prefer the looks of the Gen2 over the Gen3. I have no doubts that the gen3 is a more refined, faster, better all around viper but I think a gen2 will suite me just fine. I think i am prety set on an 01 or 02. But i would consider a 99-00 if it had super low miles and was a great deal and the color i wanted. I love the newer stle hood on the gen 2s with the vents and the triangular opening in the front.
I’ll probably be out at mark’s, if i drop out there il get your number from him and give you a call and maybe drop down.
They just dont do it for me looks wise. Nice drivetrain in them though.
Get the Viper and be slower
I say keep the Cobra. Can’t beat the sound of those things. Motor and exhaust.
BTW, you should pick up the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports… They have a detailed buyer’s guide for Vipers, which details all of the changes and options from year to year.
You’d like that wouldnt you
Neurokinetik thanks for the tip. Where can I buy it?
hmmm… it’s a toughy…
most people will tell you to keep the cobra and you will buy the viper. It may be slower, but you already know you want it… so just get it.
Mike in your first post you summed up everything … with a big :word: the cobra is hot but it’s not a viper … that one would be hot … as long as you changed the interior color
EDIT: CCW 505’s are pimp i might pick up a pair soon
Barnes & Noble should have it. If not them, then the Border’s by the Galleria will have it.
It seems like apples to oranges to me. The cars are quite different, so I guess it’s a personal choice. Besides, I don’t like Vipers, it’s hard for to me to se it as much of a dilemma. I think of the Viper is a Z06 or Porsche 911 competitor while the Cobra really doesn’t have any direct competitors except maybe some of the Hemi powered DC offerings. if I was in the market for a Viper type car, I’d take a Z06 over any old day. Comparable performance and far more practical. But it’s not me.
