NICE bearings, new coating set at a minimum.

wondering what you usually use?
PS- rockers look very similar to GM GEN III/IV stuff

I personally like the Clevite-77 TriArmor series.

Whats wrong with the stock oil pan? Not enough baffeling?
[/quote]
Oil pickup is off center, pan is shallow and wide. turn one way, OK, the other… starvation.

Yeah I used to use the Clevite H series bearing a lot, but I started using ACL coated bearings from Calico Coated Bearings | Calico Coatings
Found they were a little more consistent and cheaper than the TriArmor series
Wow… got quite a bit apart. HOLY FUCK THIS THING IS TOAST! Starting to make sense though, there was actually two failures here- one just happened to rear its head first.
The owner seemed somewhat concerned about detonation, never gave much thought to it, as it just seemed like curiousity at the time if it had anything to do with the failure. Come to find out, the builder of this car originally installed STOCK spark plugs in a car making over 1000 horsepower, along with the wrong head gaskets! The car was driven this way for about 750 miles before it was caught. Can you say PRE-IGNITION? Every single piston has the begining signs of ignition damage, and at least half the top rings are locked up- along with that, obviously is cylinder wall damage (cross hatching is begining to fade in some areas) There was no actual failure, but it would have progressed into an oil-burner as the ring and liners got worse. I am actually impressed that it held together as well as it did considering this… and that it made the power it did with piston and ring sealing damage! Looks like 8 rods and 9 wrist pins are salvageable.
The second, primary failure was the oil starvation issue, witch completely destroyed one pair of rods/pistons. This was simply due to the oil pan/track issue, but it was certainly aggravated- come to find out that one of the main bearings was damaged during install, along with #10 rod being being in upside down! (no wrist pin oil!), as well as a loose con rod bolt, and to top it off, they put the ATI balancer on with a hammer and DESTROYED it.
WTF guys? Do you not understand the meaning of the word “details”!!!

This engine actually has ACL bearings in it, i’m finding the opposite- they seem to be inconsistent, 2/10 are showing very strange wear patterns.
More Pictures of the carnage…

I am talking about consistent in sizing when they are new, not after they have been destroyed
damn. another fucking mess. but im sure the shit will be top notch once you go through it. fuck i need a viper and a bunch of other fun shit. fucking dan. fucker.

I am refering to inconsistant layering. the babbit material and underlying layers appear to be of inconsistant thickness. there were still 8 good rod bearings in this engine, so it is still a pretty good gauge for the parts involved.
As far as the Triarmor’s go, their sizes were repeatable whenever I have used them… maybe you tried them when they were new or something and the coatings werent nailed down very well yet…? :gotme:
the silver lining is that the car will be sick when it gets back together.
any upgrades in mind?

quite a few… but the question is, will the owner go that route. The repair bill for this is going to be so high that he may just say fuck it, and put it back the way it was… we’ll see. the engine would have been fine if it had the right pan, and never had the stock plugs installed in it… so realistically, any more upgrades are just a bonus.
Ouch, thats gonna hurt the wallet. Whats the final repair bill looking like with labor? 30K with all the upgraded internals?

I’m not a Viper hater, quite the opposite actually, but that’s just plain retarded. Way to go Chrysler Engineering Group. :lolham:
Is this Jerry’s car? Hope not.
have fun with the rebuild

Maybe the route they take on test tracks is all right hand turns? LOL

no, this isnt Jerry’s car… though it looks like I am building that engine anyway soon, before it gets a chance to look like this one. Stock engine TT car FT…L?
So this guy spent $30,000 on his engine but he didn’t want to “splurge” on an oil pan?
Am I reading this correctly?
