Another Auto--> Manual

Yet another Auto -> Manual swap Question.

Background:
I want to swap my 91 Auto tranny for a 5spd. The 5spd will come from an 89 parts car. (Just about to go and get all the parts)

Questions:

  1. Will the Flywheel from the 89 fit the DOHC?
  2. Will the bellhousing also fit?
  3. Will the driveshaft fit?

Regarding question 3, I read in the FSM’s from the FAQ section that the driveshaft is shorter, (model 3S71A-T) then the required (3S63A-R) that I read in the 91-94 FSM.

When i was reading the 89-90 FSM and went into the Engine section, it was all about the CA18DET. Could this be the reason why the driveshaft specs are different?

Has anyone used a 89-90 as a parts car to swap the 5spd into their 91-94?

Thanks

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. I don’t Know

Better get a manual one. The auto one is shorter, only the propeller shaft that joins the tranny tho.

I just read on 240sxforums.com that NO 89-90 propeller shaft will fit any other year. :frowning:

what???

that makes no sense…

why would they make a different drive shaft? the car is the same dimensions all around.

I know, same tranny, same diff, same center bearing… hmmmm
