Another project I started and will never get done, v1970's Yamaha motorcycle

got this bike almost a year ago (I think) from MikeInRochester. I just started working on it again so I’ll finally throw some pics up the teardown/buildup.

Here’s how the bike looks stock. Couldnt find any pics of when i first got it. It’s a 1976 Yamaha xs750. 3 cylinders, shaft drive.

The first thing I did was cut in to the tank to give it a more teardrop shape instead of the boxy shape. Then I made brackets that lowered the headlight about 3 inches so it streamlines it a bit. The speedo and tachs will be lowered or replaced with something else so it’s not a focal point.

I then tore of the fenders and airbox and all that jazz, chopped part of the back off and sketched out where the seat would go and how the suspension would be relocated.

And here we are today. The back isn’t totally completed as I need to make sure battery and electronic placement isnt an issue

A few more pics

nice… u have to many projects

Your Z is getting lonely.

Not too much of an update.Got the tank ready for color. Worked on the rear end a little more. The bike is sitting on a rail to lower it without it tipping over, so pay no attention to that.

The guy who picked up my Datsun today made a fantastic suggestion, because of the style I’m going for and the severe angle of the rear end and having suspension as issue, and wanting it to sit low without sacrificing clearance or the original triangulation (messes up steering) , he suggested building a new swingarm and adding air/hydrolics so it can be lifted to correct hight but lowered for parking (gives me stance and I’ll be able to set it down on center pegs, gets rid of the kickstand). :yeah:
