anybody moving down south this year?

@XwalkerX to each their own, but this is one of the bigger draws for me.

The south does have an allure to me. I’d probably head down to Austin if my wife and I did move. I have a friend who moved from Buffalo to Austin and currently works in the hotel business with all their new developments. Big tech sector down south too. For now though…I’m happy here.

I truly believe that East Aurora is one of the best towns in the world but, the mountains are calling me. It is too bad EA is not in the mountains. I really need to get out of NY, Cuomo says there is no place for me here and I agree.

Cuomo is part of the reason I’m looking out of state.

Basically this.

I can see some definite benefits to leaving Buffalo and NY.

Not to sound like a broken record but, I feel like a sucker everyday I wake up in NY. And they are giving tax breaks to new companies?!? Hey how about companies like mine that have employed people and paid taxes in NY since 1958?!? It kills me that they give tax breaks but seem to be in denial that lower taxes works.
And yeah this weather is getting a little old which doesn’t help my temperament.

i’ve had serious chats with my parents about this… my mom and her mom could easily cash out up here and get something deece down in FL on the gulf-side (where we have vacationed a number of times) but they are too lazy to do the research. Canadians always here scary rumours of taxes and other thingies but i also know a number of people who have bought and keep condos and town homes without issue down there.

it’s tough when you have kids though because it doubles or triples the travel costs and halves the enjoyment because you have to watch the kids instead of just chilling out all the time.

Denver area seems like a good middle-ground and i have some good friends in Colorado Springs but you don’t get easy access to the metropolitanism?? of a Miami, LA, San Fran, Toronto, Montreal and there is a lot to be said for that. Denver reminded me a lot of Seattle… awesome for a few days but not enough to stay totally engaged long-term.

Denver was amazing when driving through there last summer. Stayed in Durango one night per a recommendation from a guy at work and absolutely loved it. Colorado is a beautiful state for sure but can be pretty cold too if you’re looking for warmer weather than NY. Don’t think I would ever move to Florida full time but bet it’s awesome to be there nov-march!! !

No way I’d move somewhere without a real winter. I enjoy skiing and snowmobiling too much. Then in the summer we bust out the boat. Not a lot of places where there’s good skiing, snowmobiling and boating all within short drives. Tack on the nice spring/fall temps for getting outdoor projects done and I think I’m in my ideal climate.

But yeah, those of you who just want to bitch about winter for 6 months of the year, just GTFO. No one is forcing you to live here. If winter bothers you so much why stay?

that is pretty much exactly what this thread is about isnt it?

My parents have a place in Tampa they don’t rent. All set to go. If i can find a job that paid, I would be down there in a second.

The handful of days each year that make me hate winter simply don’t outweigh the days in the summer when I love it here.

Alaska

Best skiing on the planet but not sure my wife would move there. lol

The weather wouldn’t make me move lower property taxes and no state income tax would.

i think the only way im going to leave SoCal is if i can get a job overseas or if i eventually want to try owning a house again

I respect the hell out of this. I think the biggest thing for me, weather aside, is family. I am very very close with my fam, and that will be the ultimate reason to move home in the next 1-2. This whole Cali experience has done wonders for my career… so it’s ALLLL GOOD.

My brother used to live in Round Rock TX, we visited him for Easter once and it was high 90s.

I’m going to Oklahoma next week for one day, I’m just glad I’ll be able to get away from the snow for a bit even if it’s just for a few hours.

I haven’t lived in LA or Miami but I’d assume its more affordable then LA

You strike me as a Montana/Wyoming person haha

If you have any questions I can try and answer them. Denver is blowing up right now, so much new construction and things happening I think the city itself has a lot to offer people. I don’t ever think it will be a Miami/LA/Toronto but I live in the city and I can be in the mountains in ~30min with traffic and thats one of the largest appeals to me. I like camping/hiking/fishing/snowboarding/being outdoors and Denver offers an awesome blend of city life (bars/restaurants/nightlife/concerts/sports/ect) , while still letting me escape into the woods without driving for hours.

I love both states.

SoCal and Cali in general is awesome till you want to own a home.

I have a bunch of friends who live in the bay area who make a ton of money but everytime the conversation comes up about having family and a home its always “move somewhere else”
