How does this all compare to ECNY? I switched to ECNY a couple of years ago because of this post. No you’re mentioning something different… head explodes
^ I believe the “Energy Cooperative” aquired more territory than just NY this past year…so now they are teh Energy Cooperative of America, not just NY. So to you, it’s the same thing.
Just signed up, thanks for the bizzump!
Below are the January 2011 savings figures for ECA:
NFG Rate: $0.603466/Ccf
ECA Rate: $0.573506/Ccf
ECA Commodity Savings = 5.0%
NFG is issuing another decent sized credit in the supply rates of $0.0529/Ccf, which will apply for all of 2011. This will probably keep ECA’s commodity savings under 10% for most of the year. The total savings that people will realize will be higher though do to the additional sales tax benefits. ECA will most likely be sending out annual natural gas savings reports to all of their members later this month or early next month.
i’m very happy i made the switch. it’s nice to actually see a difference in heating bills, and i keep my house warmer this year too.
Can you explain what these credits are? Is it NFG overcharging, then issuing a credit for it down the road?
this may or may not be the same reason…but here was the explanation from the last credit by NFG:
Same basic definition that Josh provided only with an update for the period.
Here is the definition of the credit per NFG (5.2900 cents/Ccf):
Adjustment of gas sold, pursuant to Annual Surcharge or
Refund Provision on General Information Leaf Nos. 78
and 81 of P.S.C. No. 8 - Gas. Amount applicable during
the period January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011
referable to gas adjustment undercollection for the twelve
months ended August 31, 2010.
So how many people here do this, and how many have actually saved money? It seems like a no-brainer, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be more popular then.
I just re-read through this thread, and I guess I’ll give it a shot. I didn’t realize so many NYSpeed members are doing it.
Below are the February 2011 savings figures for ECA:
NFG Rate: $0.635295/Ccf
ECA Rate: $0.584395/Ccf
ECA Commodity Savings = 8.0%
Is this 8.0% savings after the NFG credit you mentioned, or has that not been issued yet?
8% for a really cold month is some real savings.
Totally agree, been on this program (both NFG and NYSEG) for over 2 years and have saved a decent amount of money.
If you haven’t signed up…do it now.
Yep, looking at page 1 I see I made the switch 6/09. The savings have been very consistent. I think a couple times it was over NFG but even then it was during the summer months when I’m using very little natural gas.
Yes, the NFG rate that we are comparing to includes the credit.
These savings also do not include any sales tax related benefits on the utility bill. Your total savings will be higher.
Looks like this is still the way to go? I never did this in Tonawanda, but I think I’ll do it in the new house now.
I’m not sure how much of my drop is related to the natural gas price plunge and it took some time to catch up but this def makes a difference. Thanks to OP and those that convinced me to do it!
My balanced billing was $100 per month and is about $65 at this point.
Bah. I still don’t have an account number for national grid. Haven’t gotten my first bill yet. Well my gas is all set anyway.
Just an FYI, if you signed up for any of the residential natural gas programs (NFG, NYSEG, RG&E) with ECA, you should be getting a custom savings report mailed to you sometime this week.
My account had 7.6% total savings for the last 12 months (NFG). This was $45 on a total spend of almost $542.
