Anyone ever have Hicas line leak???

To make a long story short… I was driving and lost power steering. I jack up the car and one of the Hicas lines is leaking out all my power steering fluid.
Anyone ever replace one of these lines??? Any suggestion on how to fix this??

BTW the line that is leaking is right under the passenger seat and the most inner line.

my suggestion…

easiest but hardest fix

non hicas ps pump

non hicas subframe

boom! problem solved

I will sell you those lines for $50

PM me.

Your best bet is to get new/used lines that are good. I had a problem quite similar to yours and tried just getting it ‘patched’ only to have it crack again not long after. Get some good condition lines, get them installed, and drench them with undercoat from CT like there’s no tomorrow.

I would go with a new one rather than risking cracking a used during removal and reinstall. You should be able to get the hardline that runs front to back from Nissan for 60$. Thats the easy part! Removing the old one without breaking the clamps is a pain. Getting a new one in is pretty easy - you just have to watch the clamping them back in. I just completed this with both my fuel lines. Took about an hour start to finish.

just a question…
when you lose your power steering does the wheel become EXTREMLY hard to turn, im asking because i also have a line leak which leaves my powersteering tank empty, and it gets REALLY hard to turn the wheel, to the point where it almost feels stuck or seized.

I’m thinking it shouldnt be this hard because there were cars that dont have powersteering, and its still drivable.

A power steering sytsem without enough fluid will be WAY harder to turn than a car that doesn’t have power steering at all. I would be getting the leak fixed asap.

^true.

Also, you don’t want to be driving around with no PS fluid in because you will blow your PS pump…which is not good (meaning more $).

Call me crazy but I did a quick fix on it for now. I lifted the car and cut out the piece that had rusted through where the leak is coming from. I then bought some brake line and put it in place of the piece I cut out using pressure connectors. Car seems to drive fine again with no leaks but we’ll see how long it can hold up.

BTW… I think your title should have read “Anyone ever have HICAS and not have a leak”

Good luck with the quick fix, might last 2 weeks, or two years!

Just wondering, whats a pressure connector - and can i buy it at a local place like canadian tire?
