i can’t offer you any advice, as everytime i’ve moved, i only needed my own car to get things around
however i can certainly congradulate you on getting out of WNY
 good luck with the future
I’m actually planning on moving to NC as well. What city are you looking at?
auttiquattro/slowsaturn just moved to North Raleigh a little over a month ago. I’m sure he’ll chime in when he sees this thread. He rented a U-Haul trailer if I remember correctly…
But yeah, you COULD hire a moving company if you have BIG $$. A move from here to there through a company could run you anywhere from $4-6000 on the low side.
We were considering those “pods” or whatever for a while, but now we’re thinking it will be much easier/cheaper to sell all of our stuff here and buy new stuff when we get there. So someone is going to be getting all my one-year-old Raymour & Flanigan furniture for cheap lol.
haha, you guys too? see you in may
Nah I’m moving next year around this time, after my fiance graduates.
Buy me a one way plane ticket and I will help
rent a big uhaul and have someone follow you down
DIY> than a moving company
it doesnt sound like you have that much that needs to be moved
i moved to philly in august, rented a Budget truck and returned it at another Budget place down here. I forgot the exact price but it was a couple hundred $'s Everything fit in it though, one of those big square size trucks.
Denton moved down there, he sold off all his shit before the move… he lives in Raligh Durham… hes my brother btw
You too jeez, ive been looking to move down there myself, looking at Cary PD, which is a nice town outside of Raleigh
Lol i was looking at moving down there before I got this job offer here in the NYC
Moving IN STATE (kinda, buffalo is fucking far from NYC) was a pain in the ass.
I hate moving…
those are actually two different cities, but i know why you say that. a lot of people refer to them together. that area is HUGE right now. the “research triangle” they call it is buzzing with jobs, growth, development.
we’re actually looking at Cary, NC which is what i’d equate (having visited, and viewed all the demographic data, etc) to amherst. it ranks #7 or #8 on the safest towns in america with 100,000 or less people. VERY cool area i have to say.
(+) very little snowfall
(+) very similar summer temps (not a big adjustment)
(+) lots of opportunities (see: jobs) all over that area
(+) lack of welfare abuse that plaques this area in every way
(+) VERY inexpensive property taxes (NONE is some areas)
(-) a few ice storms… like the ones we get 3 times a week during january :bloated:
(-) no anti-smoking laws (see: smoking sections) this could be a + for you, not for me
(-) i’m sure there are others… i’m trying to work so i’ll think of some later though…
So am I…!? Have you checked it out yet? We went there in July and we loved it.
btw if anyone is interested i have an assload of pics we took while there…
My move ended up costing around $15k. Get a job first, have them pay for it :-p Else get yourself a rental truck and go to town.
Best way for that method is Penske.
I’ve also used ABFs UPack which worked well, cheaper than movers, cheaper than rental truck, drove my car, nice and easy.
btw for anyone else considering NC, a few useful links:

Look at penske for a decent moving truck for under $800. As far as moving companies my cousin down here just picked up a 2 P.O.D.S for a decent price plus they just leave it there. You fill it, and then they pick it up and store it for whenever. I know silencingmachine is looking into one of those maybe. Just curious where are you planning on moving to in NC?
Oh and mike they have a saying down here for Cary
Central
Area for
Relocating
Yankees
Dumb rednecks
If anyone has any questions on the area you can pm me or denton
or Containment Area for Relocated Yankees
Don’t move there, Cary doesn’t need any more Yankees. I live in Clayton because the old lady is a teacher in Johnston county. I’ve been all around and if I were you, I’d look long and hard at Apex before moving to Cary. That or Holly Springs, they’re both going to be Cary Jr. in a couple years anyway. Cary has infastructure problems. Mostly water.
For a taste of home:
Buffalo Brothers on Capitol Blvd.- good wings and decent pizza, Bills games.
Upper Deck on Harrison in Cary.- decent wings, zwiegles hots, GARBAGE PLATES, me and all my yankee bretheren watching Bills games.
We should start NCSpeed er somethin’
“The south will rise again, because us yankees are taking over.” -me
HAHAHAH
Also was told by a lady from Cary that its the Concrete Adbutment for Replaced Yankees
Denton if you will be out for the game on sunday I will try and meet you guys there… been kinda busy…if you are going out send me a pm and i will send you my #, i still suck at finding things in the cary area
hes always there
I relocated from Buffalo to Charlotte back in March. I do get quite often though with my line of work. Lots o travel.
I love it here. The summers get hot during the day, but most people are in ac all day anyways. The spring/fall are gorgeous, and I havent experienced the winter yet.
Average age in charlotte is about 28, tons of stuff to do. The city is compact but looks and feels bigger than DT Buffalo.
As far as moving, I had a bedroom full od stuff and a car. I had my pops drive a F-150 with a uhaul trailer behind it. He took the trailer back the next day. It ran like $150. And my company gave me $3000 to move.
You’ll miss B-LO for a while, just visit, and then you will see how much better it is.
